Weapons are once again based on real life for IGI 2. You get a few weapons like a knife and an MP5 machine gun to start your mission with but you can pick up other weapons like your enemy’s AK-47 if you want. The MP5 in our preview build has a little kickback but the AK-47 has quite a lot of recoil which may make it harder to use for some players. Codemasters stated in our review notes that not all of the weapons have been implanted in our preview codes and that we can expect a great variety of weapons in the final version. You also have to access locks and other devices in the levels to accomplish your mission. As in the first game, IGI 2 switches to a third person viewpoint when this happens as this also occurs when you go up a ladder in the game, which in my mind is a detriment since it takes the player out of the game for a few moments.
