Holy crap. They made the Voodoo 5500 again. :) Man that thing was big.

nvidiafanboyposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 09:28
i would hate to be a 9800 fanboy right now. the NV40 is going to own ATI in everyway possible.

idiotposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 09:42
right. :)) ati 9800 is based on an almost 2-year-old core. You are a genius to figure that out :)

This monster has two external power connections, which I really don't like, and if such extreme cooling is necessary, the cost of the card will be certainly not cheap as well.... not to mention the noise... Hopefully this one is the high-end model, and the mid-range card should required less cooling and power connections.

omg the NV40 looks mad.. time for me to do a litte upgrade to my power supply :D

fx5950Uposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 14:45
You ATI girls just don't get it do you??? Two power connectors is HARDCORE and that means it is cool. a huge fan means the card is HARDCORE and that is leet. The performance is going to whip ATI and that is ....nothing new. =D

nv40 for meposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 14:56
CRAZY!!!!!!!! I'm upgrading!!! Anyone interested in purchasing my new FX5950U???

FX5900posted - Apr, 14 2004 - 16:17
look if you ATI fanboys can't take the heat, let's have it out right now. Just why do you think your ATI is better? Peer-pressure from friends? Is it because Tom's Hardware said so??? Why??? Benchmarks say a different story!!! Now shut up and bow to your King that is nVidia!!!

6800U spanks ATI's ass. totally whips it. look at these results for farcry!!! http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_6800_ultra/page23.asp

Rivals such as intel/amd and ati/nvidia is great for the market and pushes companies to the limits, I favor Nvidia for thier driver support and game support from unreal2k4 and many others, I also like how AMD has lower clock speeds yet has the ability to out bench Intel.

Jasonposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 18:29
Who cares which card is best? The fact remains you're arguing about graphics cards. AHAHAHAHA!

JKposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 18:50
i have noticed that ATI cards have less compatibility problems with MY games, so in my opinion, ATI cards rule! Who cares which card is the fastest, if it can run it and crashes at random intervals because the game doesn't support the card properly or the card doesn't do it properly?? For example, ATI with Call of Duty. (driver issue.)

Samadamaposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 19:20
@Phreezer Burn...... I second that... I was not going to say this but I was looking to buy a video card, for mainley to be able to edit and record videos on my PC, and then afcourse be able to play games on the side but mainly to record videos. On March 18, I was surprised to see that at compusa they were offering the All in Wonder 9800 PRO 128 MB for $249.00. I couldn't believe it and after speaking with the manager, checking the box which was brand new completely sealed and worrying in the back of my mind about their pathetic drivers, I still went and got the video card. It was too good to pass away, I figured even if it is crap I would be able to record videos and it would be okay. Well it has been almost a month both of my computers are messed up one is working because after installing this card just for fun I tried to uninstall and put my Nvidia card it won't uninstall the ATI drivers for some reason But with the Nvidia card it is still working fine. The other computer I had to completely Formatt the HD and install windows XP again. I did not even wanted to go on any website or call ATI for any suppport I just installed windows installed the ATI drivers and it is finally working. I know that if I were to do anything, that something will go wrong and I don't even want to think about driver updates. I bought the card for video recording and that works just-fine-and-dandy and being able to play game is okay, too. Would I pay 400.00 for this card HEEEELLLLL NOOOOO. $249.00 (just to see the other side). I only like two cards from now On.... My first GC voodoo 55000 (1-1... I know what you mean) and my Nvidia TI 4600 128 mb.....and may be this NEW one. But from now own I am sticking with NVIDIA.

idiotposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 21:27
please do not be pathetic. Compare this card to its competitor not to the old 9800. Bahh. Wait for the r420. And don't forget to buy a 480W supply for this :))

Samadamaposted - Apr, 14 2004 - 22:44
Hello Mr. Idiot. I am not comparing the 9800 with the 6800. All I said was that the card has caused me a great deal of trouble. If I am comparing, than I am comparing the 9800 to the 4600 as far as ease of operation (becasue I HAVE these cards). Only an ATI IDIOT would say something like this. The only reason why I said what I said was so that someone else that is thinking about buying an ATI card should know.

idiotposted - Apr, 15 2004 - 03:00
Hello Samadama! You should have realized that my remark was not intended for you but for those like FX5900 or SPANKMASTER.

6800Uposted - Apr, 15 2004 - 03:32
ATI's ass = SPANKED! WHIPPED! SPANKED! WHIPPED! SPANKED! WHIPPED!

Samadamaposted - Apr, 15 2004 - 09:38

pfffffffffffffffffft typical how happy the nvidia people are when nvidia FINALLY seems to have reclaimed the lead in the league of best performing vga cards. But geez, it sure took 'em ages to beat that brilliant ati9800!!!

xxxxposted - Apr, 15 2004 - 23:09
hardware is not everything, drivers are the icing on the cake. something ati can't deliver. oh but that news about catalyst is in for big change! wooo! i almost cried in laughter reading that bs @ rage3d. like really? who cares what ati has to say?! the developers say it enough with their games. 'nvidia, how its meant to be played'. read it and weep!

ncjeposted - Apr, 16 2004 - 01:54
harry den beeldscher are you serious? I own a fx 5900 ultra (leadtek a350) - and I garauntee im benchmarking as good as anyone with a similar system running a 9800...... where are you getting your numbers from? Id like to see them here.... any benchmarking ive ever seen (except Toms - I LOVE ATI - Hardware) puts my card at pretty even pace with the 9800 256mb card... cept it cost me $100 AUD less. I am not someone who has any loyalty to any brand - I want the best my dollar can buy and in this case on a fairly recent upgrade Nvidia woon my $$. Next time around I will do the same checking again... and WOULD buy ATI if it was better. One thing that does arise often is driver issues with some of the companies currently making boards for the ATI 9800.

xxxxposted - Apr, 16 2004 - 02:33
driver issues happen with stock ati cards as well. u made a good choice on your 5900 and obviously know your stuff. as in a previous post i made, you can't trust one review or another you have to look at the mass of them and take an average as it sounds like you did. i don't even read the marketing stories, i just look at fps and games, that tells me all i need to know.

Phreezer Burn said " I also like how AMD has lower clock speeds yet has the ability to out bench Intel" Dont forget.. amds chips are also far cheaper :p
