HomeLAN
chats with Steve Collins of
Havok
as he talks about their advanced game physics engine that's already been licensed to a number of well known game developers. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN:
When you first started trying to market your engine for games, how hard was it to sell your ideas to developers?
Steve Collins:
There was and is a healthy amount of skepticism about middleware in general and physics is a relatively new space. Once we could demonstrate the engine and its capabilities and won our first few clients, developers could really see the benefits. That coupled with the broader acceptance of middleware helped us to gain a foothold. At first we sold on the cool effects and added features but people see the value of a dependable outsourced physics solution to give them a headstart now. We worked really closely with our first clients to ensure they hit their publishing deadlines and word of mouth spread that the technology was great but it was backed up by our emphasis on great support.
