GameSpy has conducted a Half-Life: Blue Shift interview with Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford. Half-Life: Blue Shift is the latest addition to the seemingly never ending Half-Life universe. Originally released as a Sega Dreamcast port of Half-Life, plus some cool extras, Blue Shift puts a new slant on the story of the Black Mesa Research Facility and the outer world events surrounding this epic classic FPS.
GSD: What is coolest part of working with the Half-Life universe?
Randy Pitchford: There are a lot of great things about working with Half-Life. First of all, we work with great characters like Barney Calhoun! Also, the Valve guys are all brilliant and treat the game development process academically. And, the games are a lot of fun. These are the games we’d play in our spare time if other people we’re making them. It’s sad, but most people in this business don’t get to work on things they enjoy playing. It’s a requirement at Gearbox that we make stuff that’s fun to us (as well as our customers).
GSD: Do you think that there is room for more expansions after Blue Shift? Or are you waiting to get your hands on Half-Life 2?
Randy Pitchford: The amount of room for more Half-Life games really depends on the customers. We get an obscene amount of mail from people looking forward to more Half-Life. A huge reason why Blue Shift exists is because we’ve listened to the Half-Life fans. [more]
