Combat and graphics aren't everything, of course, and the developers at Digital Reality want to give the game some depth as well. The game employs a sort of "RPG-lite" feature that enables Hegemonia to have "heroes": commanders that can gain experience and as a result give your units more of an edge against the enemy. Our hero in the preview build was named Jack Garner who had a +5 in speed, rate of fire and shields. As the game goes on Garner will improve his abilities which also affects other units in the game. You are not limited to one hero, either: you can have more as the game goes on.
