Hackers Targeting Diablo III Players - briefly
(hx) 03:41 AM CEST - May,22 2012 - Post a comment / read (10)
There are reports (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) coming in that hackers are gaining access to people's accounts, even with the always-on DRM to cut down on both hacking and piracy. Victims claim they are missing gold and loot and have sent in tickets.
The reports coincided with the EU Diablo 3 servers going offline on Sunday afternoon for around four hours, preventing players from logging in (error 33). It has been suggested that the EU servers were taken offline following a SQL injection attack, but this remains unconfirmed.

Blizzard offers an Authenticator designed to provide extra security to your account. Donlan did not have the authenticator before the hack, but reports suggest accounts have been compromised even with this enabled.

One theory suggested by players on the Battle.net forum revolves around hijacking session identifiers, which would allow hackers to take over accounts without alerting Blizzard's authentication server. Again, this remains unconfirmed.

Whatever the cause, Blizzard will be keen to address the situation quickly, especially in light of the upcoming release of the real money auction house and the growing complaints from players. Blizzard said last week it was set for release at the end of the month.

Maybe just maybe , they downloaded the game client from those dark sites on the internet ;) and thereby got some sort of spyware into there account when they finally activated the game , other than that i won't buy that overrated comic looking game as it is now and at that price and with that DRM shit , for those who like it ...good for you ;)

Gaming has become a complete and utter pile of garbage, these days.
The worst thing they ever did was have online connectivity. On to activate and play. Security? Exact opposite. It's cost companies millions to police, patch and monitor their own games and still they get hacked and cracked, along with players details.
All this has created in the industry is a 'placebo' effect. A false belief that they are somehow, preventing piracy by having gamers log-on. Instead it creates a steaming pile of bad PR and makes people more determined to shove their games where the sun don't shine!
That's what you get with a generation that doesn't own anything physical anymore; games, music and films are all binary disposable quick painless fixes. seconds to own, legally-illegally, and seconds to try out, rip apart and infect the net when you piss off a vitamin D deficient, teen (look it up).
Producers, devs are all guilty. Pity they actually didn't spend the same amount on making games? Maybe if they were half-decent, people would buy them -like in the 'olden days' instead we have people sitting all day downloading pirated copies of several games - just because they can. Do they want them? who cares. 5mins each and they are binned of flogged off or sit amongst the porn on their 1TB and are lost in the void.
Piracy is just a cheap thrill....for some

i lost all my stuff.

bought the game legitimately via bliz. I had a decent password secure 9char password with all the trimmings. changed now and using authenticator, annoying to use tho.

blizz offered to rollback my char from lv30 to lv13. bastards.

I think online to confirm your key is fine. To have to play and be online for single player for example, is overboard and stupid but that's how it is. The day of the serial number on a CD and that's all you need is long gone.

The problem is most of the replies sound as if they were made by kid pirates with no money. Your mom won't give you money to buy the game and you can't download it. Of course you're upset - I fully understand.

Screw this. The game looks fantastic but I will not succumb to their assholery. I understand that they want to protect against piracy, but this is not the way to do it. Look at what they have done to themselves. They've attracted all this negative attention because they want to shove "security" into our online faces and then smear it in as hard as they possibly can.

I've already invested $24 in Grim Dawn and I'll gladly wait for a DRM free experience instead. Crate Entertainment really know how to work with gamers.

Or maybe people are just upset with how the gaming industry is treating it's customers...Personally, I don't give a damn about Blizzard or any of their games so I could care less what they do with them, but this "trend" spreads to other companies as well...

Baconnaise(11:34 PM CEST - May,22 2012 )
I haven't purchased the game. Kind of busy with stuff and some other games at the moment. Glad I don't have the time actually by the looks of things.

That's a hit on the head of the nail.
