The results were interesting, and showed yet again the futility of blindly reaching for the top cards. Unless you're seriously into gaming, and absolutely need to have the highest bragging rights on the market, then the 850XT is way too much money for average gamers. The 800XL makes a lot more sense, as we already found out in a previous article. The real surprises of the show were, however, two almost forgotten GPUs, in the endless flurry of new-generation releases. The good old trusty Radeon 9800 gave an excellent accounting of itself, and is available at a fraction of the price of its competitors. nVidia's much reviled 6800, which was completely overshadowed at birth by its 6800GT sibling, also performed extremely well, providing astounding performance for its value. Those pixel pipelines do tell.
