While controlling your troops on the battlefield you are no longer limited to the squad-based movements of the original Ground Control. You'll now have the freedom to move individual troops and create mixed squads that play to the individual units' strengths and minimize their weaknesses. When commanding these mixed squads, they will behave with some intelligence, so when you give an attack order that takes units across a level, they will all travel together -- the faster ones won't get there first and get mowed down before the heavy support catches up with them. Massive is currently refining a system of adaptive formations where, rather then setting fixed formations like line and wedge, the units in a squad create a tactically sound formation depending on the behavior you have set. A mixed squad of tanks and artillery set to attack behavior, for example, might form up a wedge of tanks with artillery hiding behind the tanks to provide support fire.
