The Goldeneye: Source website now offers the first public beta (mirrors) of their Half-Life 2 mod that attempts to recreate Rare's multiplayer gameplay for the Source engine. The web site has download mirrors for both client and server versions. GoldenEye: Source is a modification of Half-Life 2, with only one goal in mind; to bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life using Source Technology. We want you to look at this mod and remember the first best multiplayer first-person shooter ever made. We are doing our best to bring in the opinions of the community to create a game that everyone is going to enjoy. But, we are not here to recreate the game exactly how it was in GE64, a lot of things have changed since they first designed that game, mainly in technology and gamers experiences. We are here to take the game even further but at the same time provide a lot of those fun elements that hardcore GE64 fans will enjoy. We've got experienced team members all across the board, from professional level, to amateurs looking to make it into the business working hard to make this dream a reality.

Very buggy, server crashes a lot. Seems like a pretty big problem. Their workaround is essentially to disable all weapons and force people to a pistol.

Game has potential but its a pretty poor beta.

other notes, music is good but sound effects really limited and the gun just appears at the bottom of the screen almost like Q2...I know it's a remake of the original but things like this I hope are just beta and they will add in arms and a hand...

The karate chop/slap is funny as hell...

I tried it and there was no crosshair visible. Why does it also call all your enemies "friends" in the CS pop-up text style.

No crosshair? that's +aimmode

And just so you can be on par with everyone else, throw this in your autoexec.cfg

alias +shoot "+aimmode;+attack;"
alias -shoot "-aimmode;-attack;"

Bind that to mouse1 OR to be even nicer

alias crosshon "bind mouse1 +shoot; bind shift crosshoff;"
alias crosshoff "bind mouse1 +attack; bind shift crosshon;"

Then bind shift to crosshon

Because in HL2 this is HOW you become good. The more you can get automated, the more skillz you apparently have. (For those not as inclined, the above is sarcasm.)

Taking out crosshair or putting it to a key is just stupid to me so you can rest assured the elite will use something similar to the above.
