Gigabyte's Stewart Haston shows off the new interface in the video below:



In addition to an advanced mode that organizes tweaking options with a largely text-based interface, the UEFI's 3D mode starts with a picture of the motherboard itself. Selecting different regions of the board brings up lists of related options, complete with sliders for things like clock speeds and voltages. This new UEFI will make its official debut with Gigabyte's X79 motherboards

Looks like a prettied up Bios. That's fine as long as they keep the advanced mode for people that actually care. I'm not sure if the picture of the motherboard would help clueless people. It possibly could if they were also holding the manual at the same time. I just can't see my folks ever using the picture to get something done.

Asus and others including Gigabyte have done some different things. Asus has had customized logos since like 00'. Bios doesn't need to be pretty as it needs to be functional imo. The only reason for giving it a UI is for recovery purposes. They could give it a fancy UI and a micro OS for recovery. That would make sense.

BIOS settings are meant to change a few parameters quickly - to those who know what they are doing.
This rubbish won't help those who don't know what they're doing - only annoy the other camp.
I sure hope the old stuff remains functional and we have to worry about DLCs coming out soon!
