Ghostbusters: The Video Game Impressions - preview/review

- Post a comment The Age Blog has posted their impressions
of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, an
upcoming action game in development for the Nintendo DS, PC,
PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
As expected, trapping ghosts is the game's highlight, and
developer Terminal Reality has nailed the feeling of wielding a proton
pack. Wrestling with ghosts and trying to lure them towards a trap
after weakening them via proton pack blasts is a fun, fishing-style
tug-of-war. You can also create a fantastic amount of collateral
damage, and use a PKE meter to find spooks and add their data to the
Tobin's Spirit Guide. The sound effects are spot on, with the click and
whir of the proton pack as it is flicked on particularly nostalgic.
Better still, a lot of the dialogue is genuinely funny. Dan Aykroyd's
genuine enthusiasm for the project is obvious from his lines, and
(naturally) almost anything that Bill Murray utters is guaranteed to
prompt a giggle. The forced scenario of the player as a mute cipher - a
fifth Ghostbuster charged with testing new equipment - doesn't work as
well, but lets the other characters strut their stuff unimpeded,
whether in the lengthy cut-scenes or as co-op buddies during the action.
