HomeLAN chats with WireHead Studios' Lee "Lee'Mon" Montgomery as he talks about their upcoming Quake III Arena mod Generations: Arena. The mod, a "tribute" to id Software's games, is set for release on Dec. 20. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN: How long has it taken to get to the point of the team's first public release for Generations Arena and how hard has it been working with the Quake III engine to get it to do what you want it to do for the mod?
Lee'Mon: The mod's been in development for about eighteen months, with a total code rewrite back in February. The engine has at once been fantastic and a source of frequent frustration. On one hand, it's made special effects and abilities (like Doom's invuln effect); at the same time, we've constantly run into engine limits (like the hard-coded 16-weapon limit) that require nasty workarounds.
