The actual gameplay in the demo was hard to guage at this point since the GDC build did not have AI implemented. It was also hard to guage the game's graphics engine since the demo was shown on a flat widescreen monitor but at 800x600 resolution which created a noticable jagged effect in the game. The character models do look sharp and detailed, however, and the folks at Ion Storm are clearly working on making the game look better. While they did license Epic's Unreal engine for both Invisible War and their upcoming Thief III, they admit to pretty much ripping up the engine for their own use; so much so that in their estimation only one percent of Epic's code is still in Invisible War's engine.

Players assume the role of either a Black List or Global Risk mercenary, and then join an online team that must work together to complete objective-based scenarios. Cross Fire's flagship feature is its "Ghost Mode", which puts one team in possession of top-secret cloaking technology, rendering them invisible to the opposing team. This team of "ghosts" is armed only with knives, and must stealthily track and hunt the enemy team. This mode is exclusive to Cross Fire and no other mode exists quite like it in any other first-person shooter. (653 hits)
