GameTrailers.com Closes After 13 Years - briefly

Game video site GameTrailers closed its doors today. Statements posted to social media this afternoon stated that the 13-year-old site "is closing down today." Editor-in-chief Brandon Jones tweeted that "today is the last day of GameTrailers. I wish it wasn't so." The site was posting its standard fare of video reviews, trailers and guides right up to the surprise announcement. GameTrailers was purchased by Defy Media in the middle of 2014. Almost immediately, the company imposed layoffs, with more taking place last year. Defy Media is also publisher of The Escapist, among other online destinations. While it's easy to point to the site's demise as something to be expected, given its competition and current place in the market, anyone around today who used to stay glued to the site during E3 (or around the time of game reveals) for its exclusive clips will be sad to see it go.
After 13 years, GameTrailers is closing down today. Thank you for your continued support over the years. It has been an adventure.
