Microsoft kicked off their one-day trade show,
Gamestock 2001
, this morning at the Microsoft Convention Center in Seattle. The event began with a 2 hour "product demonstration" session during which key first-party XBox titles were shown to 170 selected members of the press. The games themselves were running on Alpha2 development kits, which represent half of the finished system's power.
'Munchs Oddysee'
'NFL Fever 2002'
'Snowboarding'
The first game shown was
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
, introduced by Oddworld Inhabitants Co-founder Lorne Lanning. The demo version shown didn't feature any sound aside from voices, although it moved extremely well. Following Munch's Oddysee was
NFL Fever 2002
, one of the first sports titles shown for the XBox. The game is largely based on an associated PC version, and features player models reminiscent of Madden 2001 on the PlayStation2. Next, the Microsoft Salt Lake team unveiled
Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding
The demo version was less than 5% complete, and featured only one course
'Rise of Perathia'
'Halo'
Moving on, Microsoft showcased
Azurik: Rise of Perathia
currently in development by Adrenium Games. Best described as Medieval meets Arabian Nights, the game is essentially an action/adventure title. Continuing, Bizarre Creations' XBox racer codenamed Project Gotham was briefly shown. According to several Microsoft representatives, Bizarre has only been working on the XBox for a short time. Specifically, the demo version of Project Gotham shown was said to represent less than four weeks of development. Lastly, Microsoft subsidiary Bungie Studios revealed an early version of
Halo
for the XBox. Appearing almost identical to the PC version, the game looked extremely impressive onscreen. Don't forget to check GameStock's
