GameCube Officially Delayed - briefly

At a management briefing this morning in Kyoto, Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi announced plans to delay the GameCube in Japan until September 14th. Thereafter, Nintendo plans to release the GameCube in America sometime in November and next spring in Europe. While executives largely refused to comment on the delay, Yamauchi-san offered a partial explanation. Following the briefing, he was asked specifically why the GameCube won't be available in July as originally planned. Yamauchi-san replied, "Having a lineup of quality software available at launch is our main priority, and we feel more comfortable with a September release. We're still expecting to release before the major console battle begins this fall, the two month delay won't have a large affect on us." Nintendo plans to announce pricing, launch titles, and shipment projections next month. [coremagazine]
