- Computer Worm Poses as E-Mail From FBI, CIA -
The bogus e-mail claims the government has discovered you visiting "illegal"
Web sites and asks you to open an attachment to answer some official
questions. If you do, your computer gets infected with malware that can
disable security and firewall programs and blast out similar e-mails to
contacts in your address book. It can also keep you from getting to computer
security Web sites that might help fix the problem, and it may open your
Windows computer to intruders who can steal your personal data.
- EB Lists Micro at $89.99 - Online retailer
EBGames is listing Nintendo's mini GameBoy, the Micro, at $89.99.
- CVG Confirms most Xbox 360 games are Region Free -
The supposed region-free titles discovered include Call of Duty 2,
Condemned: Criminal Origins, Gun and Tony Hawk: American Wasteland, suggesting
that the console's stance on region locking is the same as on the original
Xbox, leaving the decision up to the publisher. There's no news yet on whether
any foreign region games work on a PAL Xbox 360...
- Xbox 360 crash fix found - A gamer fed up with his new Xbox
360 crashing every 20 minutes has fixed the problem by raising the power
supply off the ground with some string.
The
solution is to lift the power supply off the floor and allow the air to
circulate better around it. I havent got a 360 yet, but I'm sure there's gotta
be warning about placing that thing on the floor....
- Xbox-Linux: Free60 project started - Back in May
that Team
Xbox-Linux launched their project page (wiki) for the Xbox 360 on
www.free60.org. Today they
launched the
developers mailing list for technical/serious discussions on how get Linux
boot on the Xbox 360.
- Samsung Phones Recognize Gestures -
Samsung has released two Korea-only phones that come with a nifty feature:
gesture recognition. By gesture, Samsung really means movement. The SPH-S4000
and SCH-S400 phones come with software to take advantage of this feature. For
example, you can skip songs on its MP3 player by shaking the phone from side
to side (so, no use in then gym then), or play games by shaking the phone,
rather than using a more traditional joystick.
- DoCoMo SA800i Kid Safety Phone -
Today NTT DoCoMo announced a new model currently under development -
the FOMA SA800i, made especially for children (specifically, elementary school
kids). The phone is expected to go on sale in Spring 2006 and features: GPS,
allowing you to check where your child is, either from another, mobile phone
or from a computer; an attack alarm (activated by the big pull-out ring);
Parental-control settings that, for example, switch off access to the internet
during set times every day and a "kid's mode" featuring bright, simple
menus.
