- id Software Todd Hollenshead Q&A -
id Software's Todd Hollenshead chats with Gamasutra
about things such as Tech 5 and working on games first, licenses
second; the state of the company, plans for Rage and DOOM 4, Quake
Live. He revealed: "Wolfenstein is When-It's-Done,
but I think there'll be an expectation that's going to be created
pretty soon about when that range of date and time is going to be. Rage
is not this year, and Doom is obviously not this
year, since we started it up last year. In addition to work
on all these things, we did a significant amount of work on Enemy
Territory: Quake Wars internally at the company, in addition to Quake
4."

- Making A Game Out Of Today's War - Six Days in
Fallujah - When approaching a game that realistically depicts a modern
combat situation, one criticism that often arises is the
subject of fun. Can a realistic military shooter be fun? According to
Ian Bogost, that's the wrong question to ask. "We use the word fun as a
placeholder, when we don't even really know what we mean when we look
for some sort of enjoyment in a serious experience," he said. Fun and
entertainment aren't mutually exclusive, especially when it comes to
entertainment based on real-world military conflicts.

Team Fortress 2 - The Sniper Update introduces another new
item to be included in the imminent Sniper upgrade patch for Valve'
teamplay shooter. Here's word on the Razorback, a tribal shield that's
been customized for counter-espionage purposes: "The Razorback is a
beautiful hand-carved tribal shield, built using indigenous techniques
passed from father to son since before recorded time. Sometimes the old
ways really are the best ways. And after using the Razorback in the
field, we quickly discovered this was not one of those times. "
