  • Microsoft: "We’ve been killing PC gaming" - Microsoft has pledged to ‘put the game back into Windows’, admitting that its lack of investment in PC has been 'killing' the platform. The firm has outlined to MCV details of an 18-month drive to establish Games For Windows as a platform with the credibility of PlayStation and Xbox, ahead of the launch of the Vista operating system.
  • Microsoft aims for hack-proof 360 - Microsoft plans to make its next generation games console, the Xbox 360, as difficult as possible to hack. The 360 will have security built directly into the hardware, said Xbox engineer Chris Satchell.
  • Nintendo DS Hacked for Profit and Free Games - There's fully functional device known as Super PASS designed to play NDS Roms downloaded from the Internet with your NDS. The device is officially released on 1st of Sept 2005, Announced by NDSBuyer.com, they have managed to try it out with 10 latest Roms.
  • Violent games bill passes California Legislature - Governor Schwarzenegger has 30 days to sign AB1179 or veto it; bill would take effect January 1.
    The California Assembly has adjourned until next year, but not before squeezing a few bills in under the wire. One such bill was Assemblyman Leland Yee's AB1179, which looks to prohibit retailers from selling violent games to minors, lest they be fined $1,000 for each violation.
  • When gamers become parents - In this 3-page MSNBC article, industry vets discuss how they handle video games in their own households, and how they use the ratings system and also common sense when they choose what is okay for their child to play.

  • Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 (Deer Park) Released - Beta 1 for the next generation Firefox browser is now available to download. Included in Beta 1 is a now updated “Automated Update” feature, allowing users to update the browser with updates less than half a megabyte or smaller. There has also been an improvement to how extensions are updated. Also included in Deer Park is the ability to drag and drop browser tabs so that they can be put in any order.
  • Microsoft pulls 'critical' Windows update - Next week's "Patch Tuesday" was already going to be quiet, with an update only for Windows. On Friday, Microsoft pulled that update, saying more testing is needed. Microsoft has not specified the security bugs its planned Windows update would fix.
  • Three More Seasons of South Park - Comedy Central has signed a deal with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that keeps the network's top-rated series on the air through 2008, reports Variety. The network has committed to 42 episodes, or three more seasons, of South Park over the next three years. Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of the show.
  • What is the Most Popular Reason For Teens To Have Sex? - The publication surveyed more than 4,000 virgins and 1,500 non-virgins between the ages of 12 and 24, asking different questions to each group. Among those who are sexually active, 41 percent of the girls started having sex at 13 or 14; 35 percent started at 15 or 16, and 23 percent began at 17 or 18.
