  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 PC preview - With Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Ubisoft is taking even greater measures to make the PC version a completely different beast from the console version. A big portion of the differences look like they're geared towards fans of the original PC version of Ghost Recon. The result is a deeper, more tactical game than the GRAW 2 that first appeared on the Xbox 360. GRAW 2 ships this June.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean Online Interview - The game opens with the player regaining consciousness in a jail cell shared by Captain Jack Sparrow. This sets the tone of the game and establishes that the player is following in Jack’s footsteps as they begin to build their own legend as a pirate.
  • Bethesda's Todd Howard: We care about Fallout 3 - Responding to fans in a 'Meet the developers' thread on Bethesda's forums, Howard provides a lengthy and heartfelt commentary on the developer's thoughtful approach to the game... without giving anything away.
  • Crysis DX9 vs DX10 Comparison Videos - Nzone have posted two new DX9 vs DX10 Crysis comparisons using old footage from E3, 2006. The only real advantage is that the DX9 and DX10 footage is in the same video so the difference is made a little easier to see, plus there's a slightly extended jungle scene. The first video shows us the hunter on the carrier in both DX9 and DX10 while the second videos shows us the jungle in both DX9 and DX10. (thanks Crysis-Online)
  • Free Alien Carnage (Halloween Harry) - 3D Realms offers another of their older games as a freeware release as they are now giving away Alien Carnage, the action platformer that was also released under the title Halloween Harry. The game needs to be run under DOSBox.
  • Making History Patch v2.01 - A new patch for Making History: The Calm and The Storm is now available, updating Muzzy Lane's World War II strategy game to version 2.01
  • Dungeon Runners Launches (free MMORPG) - NCSoft has officially launched their online fantasy multiplayer action-RPG Dungeon Runners to the public. People can now sign up and download the free to play game at the official Dungeon Runners web site. While the game is free to download and play, you can also pay an optional $4.99 a month fee for extra features.
  • Zoo Tycoon. 2: Extinct Animals Announced - Microsoft announced plans for Extinct Animals, an expansion pack for Zoo Tycoon. 2 that allows owners of the zoology game to create their own Jurassic park with extinct species. It's going to be released this fall.
  • Halo 2 Vista On Sale After All - While Microsoft has officially pushed the release date of Halo 2 Vista to next week, GameSpot is reporting that copies of the game have apparently started to show up on store shelves, specifically Circuit City locations. So far there is no word on why the retailer got the game earlier than the announced ship date. A reader confirmed me that the game is definately available at all of the Circuit City stores in the DC Metro area and seems to be running as expected post installation. Update: Microsoft reps today told Next-Gen the real reason for the Halo 2 Vista delay: partial nudity. They also have developed an online update which can be downloaded from www.halo2.com to remove the content.
  • PC GameOn Announced - Finally, an event dedicated solely to PC gaming...
  • Grand Theft Auto IV previews (PS3/Xbox 360) - The first Grand Theft Auto IV online previews can be found on GameSpot, IGN and 1Up.com - "Looking along the street, it's apparent that Rockstar has gone to great lengths to ensure the city really does define what next-generation gaming is all about. It's not the same as previous games, only bigger and sharper."
  • Jackass: The Game Details (PS2,PSP, DS) - The game will feature the voice and likenesses of Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and others from the series and movies and will have 35 stunts to accomplish, including "bumper car races across New York rooftops, unicycling though a construction site, rolling down San Francisco streets in a trash can and destroying a golf course with a golf cart.
  • Nintendo Spring Media Summit 2007 - 1Up.com, GameInformer and Shacknews both have overall Nintendo press event write ups.
  • Blu-Ray Lawsuit Filed Against Sony - According to the story, the lawsuit alledges that Sony's use of the Blu-Ray disk drive violates patents Target Technology has on reflective layer materials in optical discs. Target is seeking an injunction against Sony along with unspecified damages

DX9 Vs DX10 trailer comparison?

Was it just me or did the DX10 trailer look like DX9 just with more fire/smoke and rain effects? I really didn’t see anything to make it need DX10?

Not bashing DX10 just for the sake of bashing it, just slightly confused.

DirectX 10 offers a much more cinematic feeling. The rain, the smoke, everything just gives the game this sense of atmosphere that you just can't get with DirectX 9.

There weren't just more fire and smoke effects, they looked a lot better as well. Take a good look at the smoke in particular, it looks incredible in the DX10 version, almost photorealistic.

The floor was shiny, had a wet feeling and had shadows on it with DX10. Flames and smoke were absolutely stunnig. In the jungle sequence the lighting was heaps better (volumes bursting through leaves) and the overall detail was obviously better.
In case of Crysis DX10 makes it look worth buying at least a mainstream dx10 capable card.
