Final Fantasy XI Reaches 500,000 Players - console

Square Enix U.S.A. announced today milestones that were reached due to the successful holiday sales of Final Fantasy XI.. The PlayOnlineservice has surpassed 500,000 registered users in North America and Japan combined, with the total online community population (number of active characters) of Final Fantasy at nearly one million characters.

any game that needs to to pay to play is not worth it. Sims Online, SWG and especially FFXI.

jk stfu ffxi is well worth the money and a helluva lot better than swg in swg you go around distroying hives every damn time nothing new in ffxi you actually have to fight monsters etc so shut your mouth its well worth the money

Well, I personally don't play MMO games, but I think pay to play is a very resonable thing. In my teenage years, I was in Quake2 clan and we will chip in things like server equipments, network equipments for our server, some will just send a cheque in... it was great joy.

Hey, i can voice my opinions when i want....you can't insult me like a child. I just meant that IMO no game is worth paying to play. I Love Diablo II, i wouldn't pay to play it though. I just believe in that, if you pay to get it, you can play it when you want for free.

BattleNet. Thats free and i have seen over 1,000 people on there and that is for FREE!!! They are just using the excuse of paying for the servers for more money, it probably costs about 95% less then what they are charging you, To be honest, all the prices would be payed by 1 sodding banner on the main game console, like on Diablo II. Its just game companies are getting more and more greedy.

well, unlike Diablo II where all you do is hack and slash, FFXI actually has better story than to the meaningless massacre of the monsters. FFXI, has 12(correct me if I'm wrong) different servers that has unique economy running in each server, continious game events, ever evolving maps, sorrounding, gamefeel and even the development of the character itself. It's real time, and no, unlike Diablo II, the monsters here are well smarter and the GMs are so much more nicer. 1000 people in a server is a junk JK. To host 1000 people for a game like Diablo II, a server based PC with no more than 3GHz could do it. To run FFXI, hell no. I reckon, it's at least running on a SGI based machine. The amount of power to receive so much data and a time where the japanese logs on is already overwhelming enough to kick Diablo's nuts to hell (oh wait a minute, Diablo is in hell). So basically JK, for Squeenix to get even USD12 a month is not so much of a big deal. Like your telecommunication company, electricity company and those who provide you services, Squeenix is providing the best entertainment that any MMORPG players could've known for now. I know that satisfaction is subjective and I'm hell not going to promote this game for Squeenix cuz they ain't paying me, but, to me, or at least to most of the FFXI players, we whole heartedly think that this is so much better than most of the MMO titles out there. This game, is COOL.

If it would have been released in Europe already (what's the wait?) they would probably have reached 1 million!! grrrrrrrr Does anyone know a date yet for the European release?? I don't think Battle.Net is a game server. Isn't it just some kind of chatserver where people can find other people who have the same games they want to play? So whenever a game is formed isn't the actual game server on one of the players' PC? If you say that Battle.Net is a game server with 1000 players playing a game on it, then what is gamespy?
