- Microsoft Buys Winternals Software -
Microsoft has bought Winternals Software, a company that makes Windows
utility software based out of Austin, Texas. I hope he got more money than
that guy that sold WinAMP to AOL for $100 million :]
- Vista has security flaws? - Although Microsoft is touting its super
soar away Vista as the most secure ever, a security outfit is claiming that it
is just creating newer and more spectacular flaws.
Symantec, which has been playing with the beta software, says it is less
stable and secure, at least for now. In a security report into Vista,
Symantec said that Vole has removed shedloads of good, tried and tested code
and replaced it with new stuff. This means that it has bugs and defects in the
short term. Ed.note: Symantec need to sort their own software out first!!
- Apple to announce iTunes movie rentals - Think Secret has learned
that CEO Steve Jobs will use his
keynote address to announce the debut of movie rentals through the iTunes
Music Store. While the announcement will undoubtedly be billed as a further
extension of iTunes' dominance in digital media downloads, it represents a
coup for the movie industry, which will have succeeded in standing its ground
against Apple's pressures to offer consumers the option of owning movie
downloads.

- Worm lurks behind MySpace profiles -

worm is targeting MySpace users, compromising their "About me" pages and
infecting visitors to them, Symantec has warned. When a logged-in
MySpace user goes to another member's "About me" page affected by the
ACTS.Spaceflash worm, they are quietly redirected to a URL that holds a
malicious Macromedia Flash file, the security company said in an advisory on
Spaceflash Tuesday. That file, in turn, will replace the visitor's own "About
me" page with one that is compromised.
- Criminals exploit net phone calls - Malicious hackers are turning
to net phone systems in a bid to trick people into handing over personal
details.
Security firms have identified several scams in which net phone systems
are harnessed to try to catch out potential victims. In one con people are
called about supposed fraudulent activity on their credit card. So far few
people have been caught out but security firms expect the number of scams to
grow.
