GameSpy has
posted a post-E3
interview with CCP's lead designer Kjartan Pierre Emilsson as he talks about EVE: The
Second Genesis, their upcoming massively multiplayer space-based title. Here is a taster:
GameSpy: A lot of people feel that you'll be going toe-to-toe with Earth and Beyond. What key features are going to make your game shine brighter in the eyes of gamers in the long run?
Kjartan Pierre Emilsson: We think that the two games are taking two different approaches that will appeal to slightly different crowds. Earth & Beyond is aiming for the more casual gamer, that likes to level off in some finite amount of time. Our approach is slightly more hardcore, with a lot of high-level gameplay and freeform character advancement that will appeal to a more resilient crowd. This might lead to a longer lifetime for EVE, though it's really hard to predict. As we see it, both of us are kind of introducing the genre in the massively multiplayer field, and hopefully that will make the market larger for both of us.
