European PS4 Launch Swamps Servers - console

- Post a comment Ahead of the PlayStation 4 launch in Europe yesterday, Sony made the decision to temporarily disable two features of its PlayStation Network service to try to deal with an expected surge of users signing into PSN. Unfortunately, those preparations have not been as successful as planned, as many PS4 buyers in Europe have reported they have been unable to sign into PSN.
In a post on the PlayStation Europe blog, Sony says it is aware of the sign-in issues and as a result has disabled another one of PSN's features for the time being, the "redeem voucher" option. Sony stated, "Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this stage." This feature has also been disabled for the North American PSN network as well.
We are aware that users are experiencing some disruption to the PSN service. To minimise the inconvenience we have suspended the “redeem voucher” functionality whilst we investigate further. Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this stage. Other PSN features such as log-in, online multi-player gaming, PlayStation Plus trial, PS Store (excluding voucher redemption), trophies, messages, friends etc. are all available.
We apologise and will provide an update to this announcement soon.
The post stresses that users can still access the PlayStation Store to purchase items but that just the voucher selection to pay for content has been shut down for now. All of the other PSN features, including online multiplayer gaming, trophies, friends and more, are still up and running.
