HomeLAN - Was it harder or easier to create designs for a game than your work in films? Doug Chiang - It depends on the project. Both are equally challenging. I see game design as a cross between industrial design and film design. Industrial designers need to make sure that the designs are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and conform physically to the requirements of production. Film design is more about visual impact for storytelling purposes. Games are the blend of the two. The added complexity of the real time, interactive component to game designs can create new dimension in the design, but it really depends on the project. I wouldn¹t say one is necessarily harder than the other.
