EA Refuses Refunds for SimCity - briefly
(hx) 08:23 AM CET - Mar,08 2013 - Post a comment / read (8)
Apparently EA is refusing to refund players who are unhappy with SimCity's disastrous launch - contrary to an early statement that said these would be offered. One player posted a transcript of a text chat with Origin customer support in which he asked for a refund but was rebuffed. When the customer linked Hatam's original post, the support rep replied, "You can request a refund, but ... it is also the our [sic] discretion to process a refund. When the user said he would call his bank and dispute the charge, the support rep told him, "If you choose to dispute it, your account will be banned." The Origin Twitter account later clarified that statement, saying, "We will not ban players for requesting refunds."

Actually, the "ban threat" was not arised from the user wanting a refund, but from the bank dispute problem. If you go dispute a transaction from a Steam purchase, you will get banned on Steam too. But the support guy in that chat did not want to help the guy who needed it. And he just wanted to end that conversation which just makes it awkward and making him a bad supporter as well.

Meanwhile SimCity senior producer Kip Katsarelis explains the measures they are taking to address launch issues with the new SimCity, which include a server hotfix and a version 1.2 patch.
Server capacity is our biggest obstacle. We launched in North America on Tuesday and our servers filled up within a matter of hours. What we saw was that players were having such a good time they didn't want to leave the game, which kept our servers packed and made it difficult for new players to join. We added more servers to accommodate the launch in Australia and Japan, and then more yesterday to accommodate the launch in Europe. As of right now, we are adding even more servers which will be going live over the next three days. And, our plan is to continue to bring more servers online until we have enough to meet the demand, increase player capacity and let more people through the gates and into the game.

Earlier today, we released a patch that temporarily cut off some features including leaderboards, achievements and Cheetah Speed to reduce data stress on the servers and effectively free up space so that we can let more people into the game. These are great features that we're proud of and we'll turn them back on soon, but our number one priority is to bring stability to our servers. This update also resolved some of the bugs and issues that have been frustrating players. You can read all about it at http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9341807.page

* Fix for crash caused most commonly occurring on servers experiencing lag. This crash would happen most often when claiming a new city when playing in a region.
* Fix for server select dialog not appearing on start-up if the server the player was last on is not available.
* Disabled Cheetah speed. Cheetah speed is now the same as llama speed.
* Crash fix for finding closest points.
* Crash fixes in transport and pedestrian code.
* A fix cities having processing problems associated with helicopters.

Yeah the PC is the way forward.....Not.
Every bloody thing on PC is going permanently online, they are soooooo thick. Even Sony have seen sense and have said that the PS4 will not be required to be online and will play second hand games ~okay we dont know yet to what extent~ but the PC just blunders in like a bunch of cave dwellers and says, you are GETTING these measures regardless. No testing the water, or asking fans, just chucked in your face. EA ate $hit for implementing micro transactions in DS, then retract it, now this with Sim City and online every $hit inc game saves.......
Pirate it?
I wouldn't even waste a keystroke searching for it. I don't even know why you rip it to pieces, then can't wait to pirate it???? Makes no logical sense whatsoever....... You either buy or not and don't show any interest - period. That's my moto

Unless someone creates a server emulator to handle the numerous back-end functions whose operations are concealed from the client, you are giong to have a hard time playing like that. I'd suggest just buying Simcity 4 if you haven't already. No online DRM and plenty of features that were then stripped out of the new installment.

It's simple. Ban EA from your PC (or whatever the choice of your gaming hardware is).

Are we learning yet?

Between indies, promising start-ups from industry veterans, and games you just didn't play when they first came out, there are more games out there than anyone could possibly play in a lifetime. There is absolutely no compelling reason to buy anything from companies like EA.

Starve them, don't feed them.

My wife bought the game, she couldn't play it that night because of her saved game/server problem. I was going to buy it once I realized how they were dealing with saved games. F that..

My wife wanted to play as well but I haven't bought an EA game in ages. If things are better or different by the time we get back from vacation next month then she can have at it. I'm surprised they have twitch integration but no voip. Anyways I imagine CnC will be as fucked up as this game.
