Crytek Denies Crysis Coming To Consoles - briefly
(hx) 11:00 PM CET - Jan,17 2007 - Post a comment / read (3)
Despite rumors to the contrary that were sworn to by the likes of 1UP, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has made a statement claiming that Crysis is not in development for any console, in any form:
We hope we aren't disappointing anyone, but contrary to any rumours that may be in circulation, neither Crytek nor any third parties are currently engaged in developing Crysis for console platforms. Our company's sole focus at this time is to complete Crysis for PC as well and as quickly as possible, so we can release it in a timely fashion to all who have shown such a strong interest in playing our game, while insuring we meet the high quality of game play they have come to expect.

While we are gratified by the level of interest shown in Crysis by console owners and fans, and are of course interested in next generation consoles for potential future developments, it is the company's policy not to discuss future plans before the fact. We hope that clarifies the issue and thanks to all for your interest. Thank you, Cevat Yerli

Too bad, maybe more than 10 people 'could' have had the interest to buy it. lmfao!

Consoles suck, anyway. Let Crytek make a solid 'true' game for the PC (real) gamers. We will love them for it! We don't want some B*** Sh** conversion, from a game that uses a console controller -that you can't even properly aim with. Mouse vs Controller = no competition.
Let the proper games be released for PC's - thats what I say. Let the consolers stick to their 'easy to play' auto-aim' crap. Crytek ROCKS! =D>

It's really ironic that despite every attempt by Crytek to maintain its graphics / technology standard for Crysis - EA is forcing them to tweak the graphic system in such a way that the widest possible player base will be able to play this game. This is obviously driven by EA's profit targets and its shareholder's expectations.

So the current release delays are for a lot more reasons than initially meet the eye.

1) To move the release date into the new financial year so sales results reflect on the 2007/2008 balance sheet

2) To resolve the EA attempt to buy Crytek. The negotiations are apparently not over. And EA can smell lots of dollars. Lets hope Crytek holds out. They will be a much bigger force to deal with next year. EA will then need to bring a much bigger cheque book and Crytek deserves every cent.

3) To tweak the game in such a way that it can be played on low spec machines.

4) To fine tune the DX10 Vista code now that the Vista is out of the door.

Crysis is actually ready to ship from what I have heard - so many of these delays are really just EA induced.

There is some further irony relating to the console platform. Crytek's initial statement that Crysis will not be ported to the console platform because consoles (PS3 / XBox) are not nearly powerful enough to handle Crysis they way it was intended to run is now being over ridden by EA's insistence to broaden the target market footprint. In other words make it work on machines that are more on par with the PS3 and XBox.

So despite Crytek's comments about Crysis not being released on the consoles EA will force a version through to these platforms - albeit a more watered down one. It's all about dollars and EA sees lots of them. The net result of this is that games made for the PC platform will never truly get to outshine those on the consoles because publishing house like EA enforce lower standards! So lets hope EA doesn't buy Crytek.
