Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Announced - briefly
(hx) 12:37 AM CEST - Aug,13 2011 - Post a comment / read (5)
Valve has taken the lid off of the inevitable and has officially announced they are working on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive! CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).

Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.

"Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike,....portal)

funny but no. They didn't invent or create either, community did. For free.

Oh man, valve took a great game and fucked it. Then they released CZ and everyone laughed at it, I think a total of 20 people played it competitively. Then source came out and it sucked so much that more people are still playing 1.6, even after they fucked jumping, fucked weapon switching, and fucked everything in the favor of newbie gamers. Valve can suck my dick.

I played cs1.6 a few weeks ago for nostalgia, honestly it sucks I don't even know why people still like it. The worst thing about it is grenade throwing/bounces etc, its just terrible to go back to that.

Don't get me wrong I used play cs1.6 all the time back in the day, and even in leagues. I just don't get people who say cs1.6 is better than css.. its so not. I tell you what does suck though, css beta.. if that is the sort of improving valve does in the years css has been out, then what kind of shit will this new game be.

I'm already bored just looking at this recycled de_dust2 map they've used for this trailer. At least call of duty maps are fresh, heck ever since cod4 came out that has been the counter strike replacement.

This new one has condition zero fail, written all over it valve.

cs 1.6 was already fucked up. cs was fucked up since valve took it over. 1.0 was bareable after the retail release, 1.3 was already hurting but 1.6 nailed the coffinn.
cs used to require skill and tactic, you couldnt just spray at a corner and kill 5 people, you were required to think ahead. because the guns and hit boxes were shitty.
when 1.6 came out i killed the complete enemy team on a 28 player server. 14 kills in one round just by spay&pray with a colt.

i quit my clan the next day there was no more challange in the just twitch based mouse of target click shit like you have in CoD today.

i still remember the beta days when i often didnt even reload my ak in a round since i only used half the mag in a 5 on 5 game round, because you had to be a surgent with the rifles you couldnt just spray and hit shit.

btw Koogle you comment shows you never understood cs.

is the granade bouncing in cs goofy and unrealistic hell yeah. but it made it more about skill.

in cod if i through a nade the right way, you have no way whatsover to avoid it. your just fucked and dead.

in cs i can hear what granede you through and i have to to react to it because i hear the bounce a solid one or two seconds before the bang.
so i can get to safety.

now the skill was to through the nade to where your enemy would fall back to if you played a skilled opponent because you knew he would retreat as soon as he heard the bounce. if you played suckers they would sit tight, so your analysis of their playstyle the last few rounds played a big role in you play.
it became a complete mindfucking game.
