Controversial Remake of Sierra Classic Released - briefly

Today, Tierra Entertainment released the VGA remake of Sierra's classic, and first graphical adventure game ever, King's Quest 1: Quest for the Crown. This new game is the only fan-made remake ever completed, as well as the largest in existence.
King's Quest VGA is available as a free download at www.qknowledge.net/royalquest, and also includes a voice pack featuring the voice-acting talents from the original King's Quest series. Additional features unique to the remake are a point-and-click interface, animated dialogue pictures, and attractive VGA graphics.
Currently, the Anonymous Game Developers are working on their next release, a parody of the first King's Quest game called Royal Quest 1: Retrieving Lost #@!$. Release is expected later this year. [more]

I downloaded this game today and I was very impressed with it! For a fan-made remake it's extremley well done, and I'd encourage everyone to try it!

Ultima III was remade by a fan, w/updated graphics for the Mac. So this KQ is not the first fanmade remake.
