HomeLAN has conducted an interview with Pitch Studios's Eric Peterson, talking about their upcoming space based RTS game, Conquest- Frontier Wars web.
HomeLAN :What will make Conquest stand out among the other RTS games coming out this year, in your opinion?
Eric Peterson: Conquest is both an innovative and traditional game. Traditional in that it utilizes a familiar 2D interface, Innovative in that it introduces tons of new features to the game play side of Real Time Strategy.Features such as:
A. Fleet admirals - Computer assisted units that add bonuses to your fleets and will actually fight battles intelligently for you while your attention is focused elsewhere.
B. Multiple Maps - Fight on up to 16 different maps at one time, all connected by wormholes which allow for many strategic fights in Conquest, as control of the wormholes is crucial
C. Supplies and supply lines - Supplies have been a major factor in warfare forever, yet most RTS games don't account for them. We wanted to cerate a supply system that lets you manage your supplies and adds another layer of strategy as well.
D. Special weapons - Each race has unique special weapons that are based on that races capabilities. Each weapon has its own effect on other units, and makes for some interesting battles, as some weapons can knock out a lot of enemy units with one shot.
The reason we went with a traditional 2D interface is to make it easy to get into and play. However, Conquest has many, many layers of depth and truly does justify the statement easy to learn, hard to master, so it will challenge even the most experienced RTS player, while allowing for the entry level player to not be overwhelmed.
