Condemned 2 Developer Interview - interview
(hx) 05:45 PM CEST - Jun,30 2007 - Post a comment / read (6)
IGN has conducted an interview with producer David Hasle, associate multiplayer producer Tarl Raney, and lead software engineer Brian Legge talking about Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3/Xbox 360), the sequel to Monolith Productions' gritty first person shooter Condemned: Criminal Origins. Here's a taster:
IGN: Why no PC version this time?

Hasle: We wanted to focus on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. That's really it.

IGN: A lot of people would argue that the ultimate in replay value these days are the types of online options that are offered. Condemned 2 has them but they haven't been talked about yet. What can you tell us?

Tarl:
One of the goals we set about multiplayer early on is that we wanted to keep the same feel and tone of the single-player game with the added edge of facing human opponents. So without getting into too much detail, we've been playing around with a lot of different game modes and beating the hell out of your friends with a pipe can't be beat. That's at the heart of it obviously, it's what we're known for, and it's what we're trying to bring to the multiplayer space.

As far as game modes are concerned, nothing has been completely locked down at this point. We've been trying a ton of different stuff and one of the things that's coming out is this idea of pitting two teams against each other with one team tracking down forensic evidence, while the other team prevents them from doing so.

So, the PC users will be left hanging in the air after playing "Origins". The story didn't finish there and it's a dead end for all of us who were eagerly expecting the sequel. Hope their sequel sells bad for consoles. there is simply no real excuse for not having PC version out also. The engine is made on PC, for PC (and consoles) it is a "sand-box" engine, entire sequel is probably made ON PC for consoles ONLY (I don't think they licensed new engine for the sequel, they paid milions of $ for the previous one, they prolly just modded it). Was it that difficult to hire 3 additional programmers to optimize for PC ?

I agree, i enjoyed 'origins' it was a very good game and had the best (creepy positional) sound that i've heard in a long time!
The story seems to be just 'churn out for consoles', It would after MS pathetic attempt with Vista has turned devs away

I don't think m$ turned devs away, I think devs and (especialy) publishers got greedy. I don't mind that, I mind that I can't return original unifineshed game to the store. I played it because it was good and I was sort of promised a sequel, and now I find my self with 8800gtx and no sequel to condemned. My point is: If I knew there was not going to be sequel for PC, I woudn't have bought the 'origins' in the first place. magine watching LOTR first part in UK and then having LOTR second and third part released in US only. <--- That is my point ;)

Well, i think one of the biggest problem 'Origins' had was that it bombed on PC.
Sales weren't very good -that and it was sooo incredibly short!
I know because i never bought it full price and waited until it was released budget (maybe lots of us did the same thing)
Greedy, yes; once bitten twice shy...probably too.

Vista isn't going down to well at the moment (with devs) what with MS pushing for Vista exclusive titles and not XP as well.
It all means money -as you said- so it's a combination of everything lol

yeah, I agree it was short :P Even if it was 20hrs longer - it would still be short :) I enjoyed the game very much. It was a really good horror game, nicelly scripted, good story, I played it 2 days straight and finnished it (maybe even more than two days, I don;t remember anymore). I think generally games for PC (mostly) are not selling nearly as good as for consoles, but they still make a pice of the pie. I don;t see blizzard compalining...Condemned was not advertised well IMO, there was no "hype" arround it, so the fault for bad salles goes into hands of publisher. You can't blame market for that IMO. As far as Vista goes - I am not yet interested. they will need a title like bioshock or crysis to make people go Vista, but publishers of such games will hardlley make that kind of move...There are people like there (like me) who simply don't like to be blackmailed or pushed into things. Hell, I am runnin' 939 platform :P

cheers everyone !

Another disgusting announcement:

quote:

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios today announced a collaboration with Paris-based developer Quantic Dream, one which promises to "redefine cinematic real-time entertainment" with a new PlayStation-exclusive title. Judging by Quantic Dream's past efforts in David Bowie dystopia sim, Omikron: The Nomad Soul, or the multi-angle murder mystery Fahrenheit (dubbed Indigo Prophecy in America), cinematic presentation and integral narratives seem du jour on the developer's list of goals.

Quantic Dream President and CEO, David Cage commented on the choice of console and the sheer pleasantness of the folks at Sony. "We always believed that "next generation" meant more meaningful content based on players' emotional involvement. To us, PS3 is the only platform that can truly deliver on this promise, and SCE WWS is a group that is both inspiring and pleasant to work with."
