Command & Conquer: Renegade First Impressions - preview/review

Today I've started to play Command & Conquer: Renegade, Westwood's first attempt at a FPS game set in the famous Command & Conquer universe. You play the role of Havoc, elite GDI commando who fights and explores from a 1st/3rd-person viewpoint (optionally). Battling through exotic (and pretty large) indoor and outdoor environments, you're free to use both brute force and stealth in your mission objectives against the evil Brotherhood of Nod. I very like this game, especially it's pretty cool to be able drive tanks, jeeps, but the majority of the game is spent on the ground shooting bad boys in a typical FPS style manner :) The game graphics aren't top notch, but it's OK, plus some special effects really rocks. Only thing that disappointed me is the game speed, graphics (1024x768/16 + medium details) seems to be even slower than in Medal of Honor, and multiplayer tends to be a lot laggy, also loading quicksaves takes forever. I hope they will improve it with some patch later. However I strongly recommend you to play it on >1GHz + GeForce3 computers. Well, now I'm finishing mission #3 so be patient - I will write a review this weekend :) (hopefully). Here's a batch of screenshots!.

In addition Westwood released a beta version of dedicated server which includes everything needed to run the game's five multiplayer maps (City, Complex, Field, Under and Walls) in standalone mode. Although they removed the file from Westwood FTP, it's still available from 3DGamers and Fileplanet.

I've tried it, and it feels and is quite cheap & empty.... Gets pretty boring and repetitive after a while, especially the shoot for the heads...

Yeah, it would be first time Westwood put on game in 3D world of premiere of his oldy game, C&C. Games lags that i played with my comp. GeForce2MX. It quite much delay in some sort of scenario. 1024x768 ,32bit. Dont know why. Probably display card wont be good one. If i could make a choose for 3D playing , i would choose "Medal of Honor".
