As promised last week, GameSpot has published their "extremely large" - 15 pages
long Command and Conquer: Generals article, that offering the first word on the next installment in
Westwood's C&C series which is in 3D and is set 20 years in the future and finds the
US and China fighting against a rogue state. Here is a snip from the article:
For fans worried that the introduction of Generals means the end of the GDI-vs.-Nod storyline, Castle shares some good news. "Nod and GDI haven't finished their battle quite yet," he says with a sly grin. Skaggs also divulged that the Sage 3D game engine created for Generals has been given to Westwood for an upcoming unannounced product. It appears that the regular C&C lineage will live on and coexist with the new Generals franchise.
While Skaggs and his team may now be a distinct entity from Westwood, he says the split with Westwood was amicable. After all, he reminds, they are all still part of the same parent organization. "We benefited a ton from working with Brett and Louis at Westwood," he says. "Brett sat down at length with Harvard and I and taught us the basics of how to design an RTS." Now, the team in Irvine will use that knowledge and design know-how to take C&C in new directions.
