Computer Games - How well does the AI handle both your computer controlled teammates and enemies in the game? Peter Tamte - There are some similarities between the Marine and enemy AI, in that they're both affected by the psychology model and they can both take cover, toss grenades, etc. But, one huge difference between the Marine and enemy AI is that the Marine AI is written very much for teamwork and modeled after actual Marine Corps fire team tactics. For example: crossing intersections, moving up staircases, even when walking down the street the Marines will provide 360 degrees of security and communicate their status to you. The enemies use a variety of tactics to pursue you; they use cover effectively, they will try to flank you, trap you, and use all other sorts of real tactics. But, most importantly, the psychology model means they will behave like real humans in response to your actions. The Marine Corps has really emphasized to us that the human will (psychology) is absolutely central to realism. Most Marine tactics are about breaking the enemy’s will to fight. We have built a psychology model into First to Fight so you can actually use real Marine tactics against your enemies and have those tactics produce a realistic, unscripted, psychological affect on them.
