CGW issue reveals HL2 details - briefly
(hx) 01:58 AM CEST - Aug,29 2005 - Post a comment / read (10)
Forum members at HL2.net have started to recieve their subscriber copies of Computer Gaming World magazine early, as happens for many mags. They've got a Valve bonanza, and some of it is interesting in the extreme (thanks EvilAvatar):
- Lost Coast and DODS 'should be avaliable as you read this'; it is currently less than 2 weeks to the issue's official release.
- The director commentary in Lost Coast takes the form of in-game cues that you can walk up to an use to hear what the devs have to say.
- Thirdly and finally for Lost Coast, it does in fact tie in with the story, explaining how Ravenholm became overrun with headcrabs.
- Aftermath includes new AI for the Rebels and 'collaborative action'.
- The Hydra, cut from the game since its demo at E3 2003, may well return in future titles.
- Valve don't intend to deliberately shy away from new IPs - but only expect them in the form of episodes.
- EA want to take a 'similar approach' to Steam in the near future. Uh oh.
- Biggie no. 1: Valve want a new HL2 episode every 3 months and a seasonal box set of them for 56kers and philistines.
- Biggie no. 2: Steam has been completely rearchitectured, and we are all 'running two versions of it': Steam 2.0 and 3.0 alongside each other. Presumably only parts, of course.
- Biggie no. 3: The second episode, following Aftermath, focuses on vehicles. Aftermath focuses on character interaction, and Alyx is always with the player during it.

Pretty good news! Yet I can't use steam because it is nearly impossible to find a legit copy of HL2 in Ukraine, so I'm too dependant on pirates. If they crack and sell Lost coast and Aftermath than I'm the happiest man ever born :)
Do you guys get as excited as I am about HL2? I just can't wait, but never complained about the delays.

well u might be closer to saying you are anxious for Counter-Strike Source, because that's the only real portion of their game they support. DM community is left to rott. Then if you want to ignore the fact there are some major cheats out there for HL2 all around.. Hmm, like aimbot/wallhacks that are not even detected with VAC2.. I'm almost hesitant to understand why anyone gives a hoot about HL2. Poorly supported game by an overblow game maker.

don't matter it's gonna be the buggiest piece of crap anyhow. All dm'rs will get screwed cuz Valve doesn't care about em. Only CS source. LOL! Once BF2 hit shelves you could literally watch the HL2 population cut itself in half. HL2 will just never be to gaming what HL1 was..

You seem to complain mostly about multiplayer issues, while I really care for singleplayer. I don't really know why some people didn't like the singleplayer , it's probably those expectations set too high by the media and by developers in some cases, but I liked it a LOT!
Yeah there was no revolution, but I found it a wonderful game, it did awe me, and that's what I expect from a great game.
Well, people have different tastes and different requirements. I'm happy my expectations were fulfilled.

1UP.com is also having coverage every day this week to complement the CGW story.

Content includes:

* Aftermath & Lost Coast
* Episodic content and SiN Episodes
* Mods and the crazy stuff you can do with Garry's Mod plus a ton of new in-game direct feed footage of HL2 on Xbox
* Retro-active of HL and the story of Valve
* Video interview with Gabe that gets into everything from the future of HL and Steam to next generation consoles.

Check it out at http://valve.1up.com...the cover image is pretty sweet. :P

@Nosferatu:

It's not just about High expectations. They really are making third grade games and we are so stuffed with shit that we justify crap like this in a way you mentioned; High Expectations.
They focus on graphics, and lack on gameplay programming. I mean, just look at San Andreas. That is a modern game which exploits modern technology. Did anyone care too look at the game files? There is no 3GB worth of Hi-res textures. Half of the space went onto audio files, and the large part of the rest of the data are compiled scripts(programs actually).

I bet that 90% of the people working in the industry are concept artist (70% of them are bad at what they do), texture artist, 3d Modelers which work by concepts of that mixed quality artists. And the other 10% are people who only know graphic APIs, gun modeling, and as of lately KARMA animated breasts! Fuck that shit!

Lately i'm enjoying games such as Abe's Oddyssey, Abe's Exoddus, NFS4 PSX, NFS1, Tomb raider 1,2, AND SOME OF THEM ARE NOT EVEN 3D OMFG!

P.S. Sorry to kill the thread once again :P

Imer, I'd really like to argue with you on a range of issues you mentioned, but that wouldn't fit as a comment. The only thing I can say is that you're right only in a few moments. It's probably that your point of view has a different angle that couldn't be changed. As i said, tastes differ.

lmer(02:34 AM CEST - Aug,31 2005 )
Well i'm not studiying video games, so it's a fact that i'm wrong in some points, and my standpoint on this subject can be changed after a good discussion. Plus i bet heretic would love to see a nice hot thread. :) But yeah, it wouldn't fit a comment prolly :evil:

hot flmaing red thread? Could be done, let's see. Gabe is a fat bastard, sub eating loser who got rich, bought lots of exotic cars and forgot how to make and support his own games. He's so fat and cholestrol messing up his arteries that i think all that fat went to his brain. hl2 single player was ok, not as good as hl1. Valve blew it on HL2 that's why there's still a ton of players still hooked to HL1. Whats valves support now? cough cough, CS Source.. that fake game they try and pass off as CS on Source.. whatever. More like a easy to win lottery for headshots! Hey did u know u can be a ubber n00b and still get headshots off nearly every shot? now valve is with EA, whats that mean? GOUGE GOUGE GOUGE. gonna be expansions left and right, no support. Hell they got an active aimbot/wallhack being used by thousands of people. They'll try and tell ya it's cheat free! Hahahaha!

Oh ya VAC2 they ender of cheats huh? Whatever, lmao(the BIG lie). VAC2 don't do squat. Aimbot and Wallhack works perfectly fine. I'd know, I use it at my buds house a few times now while we drink and we totally kick ass on CS Source, he cheats on everything he plays including GTA SA. People on servers rarely say I'm cheating and but when they do we say, umm ya ok n00b. Nobody kicks us cuz they can't prove it. But funny as hell to see, even more fun when u put it in auto mode and it shoots for you! This is a VAC 2 secure server u will be banned! Wooo! Boy I'm shaking! Wow, lets see, we been playing for hmm, 2 months if not more now I guess on and off and his steam id is still going! Ah quality! Valve sucks ass, I'm waiting for a real game and FEAR and Bet on Soldier look damn impressive!! But wait, I'll still go over to my buds have beers and cheat on CS-S, cuz it's just hilarious pissing off those that think they are so elite!! Even better is when they want to recruit u.
