CEMU Wii U Emulator Linux Builds Hit by Pro-Russian Malware - tech

CEMU, a popular Wii U emulator, suffered a major security breach between May 6 and 12, 2026. A pro-Russian threat actor used a compromised GitHub collaborator account to replace the Linux AppImage and Ubuntu ZIP files with malware. The malicious software steals credentials like GitHub tokens, SSH keys, and cloud provider logins. It spares Russian users but has a 1-in-6 chance of playing a loud siren and running "rm -rf /" on systems set to Israel locale/timezone. Windows, Mac, and Flatpak users are safe. Affected Linux users should check SHA256 hashes, reset passwords, block the C2 IP, and consider a full OS reinstall for safety.

I love this. It’s a pity it hadn’t happened decades back. Then games would be cheap and arseholes would be bankrupt. These are the thickest idiots and easiest to exploit
