GameSpot has posted
a new and probably final preview of Command and Conquer: Generals,
soon-to-be-released 3D real-time strategy game from EA Pacific. The preview is
based on playing a near final build of the game and reveals that the game has
now gone gold and is heading for duplication for a Feb. 11 release. That sounds
pretty damn cool! Here is an excerpt from the preview:
The mission presentation carries over to in-engine cutscenes, which often show the highly capable 3D engine to best effect. The Chinese campaign starts off with a shot of a military parade, composed of a hundred or more marching soldiers, plus tanks, and a thin crowd to each side. Somehow it wasn't surprising to see a GLA suicide bombing unfold before our eyes, setting up the conflict between China and the GLA in Central Asia. While the game generally looks quite good, some of the cutscenes use dramatic camera angles for a surprisingly realistic cinematic effect. One memorable shot looks up from the ground as jets scream overhead, while another looks down the fuselage of a rocket ominously blasting off to deliver a terrible payload. The vehicle unit models have enough polys to pull these scenes off convincingly.
