Blizzard's response to Blitzchung incident - briefly
(hx) 12:58 PM CEST - Oct,12 2019 - Post a comment / read (6)
Blizzard has ruled that Hearthstone pro Chung "blitzchung" Ng Wai will been removed from Hearthstone Grandmasters, following the player's call for Hong Kong's freedom during a post-match interview. Additionally, Blizzard has stated that it will no longer work with the two casters who appeared in the now deleted broadcast. Blitzchung has been found in breach of Section 6.1 of the 2019 Hearthstone Grandmasters Official Competition Rules, which forbids:
Engaging in any act that, in Blizzard’s sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the player’s prize total to $0 USD, in addition to other remedies which may be provided for under the Handbook and Blizzard’s Website Terms.
As a result, so continues Blizzard's statement, Blitzchung will receive no prizing for Season 2, and will be suspended from Hearthstone esports until October 5, 2020.

Now Blizzard president J. Allen Brack issued a statement regarding Chung ‘blitzchung’ Ng Wai’s ban. Here's an excerpt:
I want to take a few minutes to talk to all of you about the Hearthstone Grandmasters tournament this past weekend. On Monday, we made the decision to take action against a player named blitzchung and two shoutcasters after the player shared his views on what’s happening in Hong Kong on our official broadcast channel.

At Blizzard, our vision is “to bring the world together through epic entertainment.” And we have core values that apply here: Think Globally; Lead Responsibly; and importantly, Every Voice Matters, encouraging everybody to share their point of view. The actions that we took over the weekend are causing people to question if we are still committed to these values. We absolutely are and I will explain.

Our esports programs are an expression of our vision and our values. Esports exist to create opportunities for players from around the world, from different cultures, and from different backgrounds, to come together to compete and share their passion for gaming. It is extremely important to us to protect these channels and the purpose they serve: to bring the world together through epic entertainment, celebrate our players, and build diverse and inclusive communities.

the point is, contract must be followed and respected. What that guy from Blizzard said is just bullshit and lies.

I think it's funny they posted it Friday after 5pm. Like they don't want anyone to see it. This is the time organizations post things when they want it to fly under the radar.

well he could have said anything else, as long it made sense, just not this BS that he said.
I have nothing against a company organizing something, setting rules and making contracts for people to sign, or not. The dude broke the contract, and to make things worse - there is a lot of money involved and Blizzard now gets to keep it.

If I were the guy making that statement that Friday 5 pm, I would have said simply "we don't care about politics and activism, it's in the contract. This was an e-sports event, it's about fun and competition, keep politics out of it. Guy broke contract, and that's that"

See, you don't even have to take a stance on Hong Kong events. How hard is that?

You might want to follow up on this Heretic, Blizzard backpedaled under threats.
