The Daily Telefrag has conducted an interview with Nival Interactive's Dmitry Devishev, talking about their upcoming real-time strategy title, Blitzkrieg. Here is a taster:
DTF: What sets Blitzkrieg apart from other games of the genre? What projects inspired you?
Dmitry Devishev: The uniqueness of Blitzkrieg is in its diversity. Each campaign is subdivided onto chapters, while inside the latter there will be the primary mission based on the historical situation, and a number of secondary smaller missions (with the same setting) that are generated randomly. The advantage of this system is that if you like covert ops, you can go for it. Do you prefer head-on attacks? No problem. Maybe you wish to wipe off occupants from the land, or attack convoys? Whatever you want. Each mission implies certain advantages, new experience, plus new skills for troops. When you've got your soldiers properly drilled, you can proceed to the primary mission. This is a new approach in the field, and we think it could be quite promising. At least, player would have a great number of opportunities in the game.
Besides, Blitzkrieg is based on the open-source file formats, so the game will be fully customizable. For example, we are planning to include random missions generator, which will be based on templates: you can draw a village on your own, for example (those who don't like to draw may choose a pre-made one). Then you can battle out in that very place. We also have got some advantages of 3D technology we use, and we stress the authenticity of the gaming process.
As for the inspiring projects, I guess I should name Close Combat, Sudden Strike, Ground Control and Total Annihilation as the games we are basing upon. [more]
