BioWare: Xbox 720 isn't a huge leap from Xbox 360 - console
(hx) 01:17 PM CET - Jan,19 2013 - Post a comment / read (6)
Neil Thompson, BioWare's director of art and animation, has stated that Microsoft's upcoming next-generation Xbox console won't be a massive upgrade in technology as the Xbox 360 was over the first Xbox console.
The next generation of Xbox hardware won't be quite as barn-storming an upgrade as Xbox 360 was over the original Xbox, It'll still be quite a big leap, mind

"Clearly we still hammer up against the limitations of the hardware on a daily basis and if you push those parameters back, as I'm sure the next-gen will do, we'll hit them again," he began. "I think the main thing is that the industry doesn't get itself into a corner where it becomes economically unviable to make a game.

"The last technology iteration caught folks by surprise - especially the number of people you needed and the skillset jump to do the work that people expected. In the last generation the perception was that it was going to be a ten times improvement over the previous generation. "

"For the next generation there will be quite a big leap, but it won't be as obvious," Thompson continues. "People will do things in a cleverer fashion - and I have to be careful here as there are non-disclosure agreements involved! I think they'll be better prepared, shall we say - but we can't see a ten-fold team increase again as the budgets would just be ridiculous.

"You'd have to sell 20-30 million copies before you broke even."

Oh wow this is shocking.. wah WAH!!!!!!!

PC hardware, like smartphone tech, moves so fast while consoles are what Apple was like a couple/few years back: dinosaurs which h/w refreshed soo slooww..

So it took 360->720 7+ years to be only, marginally-better? ha ha ha..

Well.. they do have to keep the costs low @ $300-500 but wait.. the h/w back at the 360's release should be utterly pathetic compared to whats available now + be cheaper so WTF?

Anyway. goes back to being NOT a shocker. Typical the h/w doesn't keep up when we're talking consoles all the while ensuring a cost-effective price-point. [backs to playing on PC which, oh.. rigghhtt.. MAKES ME MONEY TOO!!!!!!]

As long as COD keeps running the Quake3 engine this should be ok :)

hahah.. yeah too true.

Why would you expect it to be leaps and bounds better? Doesn't make any sense what so ever. Xbox 360 is more than sufficient for today's games. A more improved 360/720 will be sufficient and still keep killing PC. Take a look at console sales vs PC sales. PC is and has been the loser for a while, lots and a growing amount of console games still ported to PC not the other way around. Enjoy your PC like I will for gaming for now but I PC will continue to dwindle as we continue forward. Android, tablets are the last knife in PC's back. Now they got these mini-android devices that hook up right to your TV and a lot of games are keyboard and mouse supported. Even nVidia is getting more into android and gaming. PC is dying more and more every day. Bring on the you're an idiot shit and whatever else you got. I enjoy reading your denial crap and stuff.

Its only limited if the game devs say so. Anyway, I'm looking forward to see what the 720 or PS4 hold if they can keep eye-candy and frames good even without the power under the hood. Code it well for those plats then sure however its always nice for us PC players to have more 'graphic and gameplay' features (ie. Bioshock Infinity) verses what they are limited on consoles (cheaper more portable alternative of course).

Ya Bioshock Infinity will be good (hopefully) if what they are saying is the truth.

Singularity - PC, PS3, Xbox 360 - Raven have stated that Singularity's main gameplay mechanism is a device, known in the game as the TMD (Time Manipulation Device). The TMD has the ability to move a single object through time, both into the future, and into the past. It can also freeze an object in time, and has an 'Impulse' function, which can be used as a weapon once upgraded. The TMD is multifunctional, as it can be used as a powerful weapon, but also as a tool in puzzle solving scenarios. The device's use as a weapon is unconventional when compared to the weapons in other games. For instance, using the TMD's "rewind" function on a human opponent will send them into a "placental" state where they revert to an almost amoebic state, before slowly dying. The device is essential for solving puzzles, such as sending a lock forward in time, causing it to rust it in real time, or sending a broken bridge backwards in time until it returns to a usable state. Sending a tree trunk forwards in time while standing on it will cause it grow very quickly, allowing the player to reach higher areas. (697 hits)
