NPD Group has released their list of the best-selling video games of 2010, across all platforms. According to the NPD Group, Call of Duty: Black Ops was the biggest selling game of 2010 (new physical retail only, including PC), pushing "more than 12 million units" out the door since its launch in November 2010. One can't help but wonder how the list might look differently if digital sales were included...

I think I am done with gaming. I just bought fallout 1 & 2, that should keep me interested for a while. After that, I am going to emulate amiga OS and play some megalomania, maybe some north&south after that.

What I don't understand is why digital sales are not included in these lists, surely it's easy enough to keep track of or am I missing something?
No surprise that Black Ops is top of the list, I got it for the XBox and the multiplayer is great as always although I never get a go on it because the missus always wants to play split screen zombies :roll:

My guess is that the online distributors are being cagey about their revenue numbers. But you're right; by not including sales via Steam and other digital outlets, NPD's numbers have become very distorted. I'd argue they've become irrelevant.
