In terms of performance, the drive did not fail to impress in all areas of testing. Its read performance with all media tested was excellent and write quality was impressive as well with both CD and DVD recordable media, including double layer media. For those primarily into DVD ripping, this is the drive for you. It can rip a single layer disc in just over 5 minutes and dual layer discs can be ripped in record time as well.

Also note that BenQ drives feature full overburning capabilities and 99min CD-R media is supported. The drive also loads all media formats quicker than a majority of other drives on the market, however, the load times were slower than their DW1625. Media compatibility was good with the exception of DVD+R DL media. Its overspeed feature can be quite useful for those who know their media well and are looking to take advantage of its high speed burning. The feature does work well. Also note that the drive does support booktype change to DVD-ROM with all +R DVD media when using their utility. While I personally prefer automatic booktype support, it at least supports this recommended feature that will increase playback compatibility on a majority of standalone DVD players.
