Battlefield 3 runs at just under 720p on consoles - briefly

DICE has revealed that Battlefield 3 runs at 1280 x 704 resolution on consoles, which is just 16 horizontal lines short of true 720p. But unlike other games that run at a lower resolution, Battlefield 3 wonâ€™t be upscaled, instead, there will be two small black bars (just 8px high) at the top and bottom of the screen. If the image was scaled, it would 'just ruin the picture', as DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson revealed via Twitter. According to Anderson, removing the 16 lines of resolution increases performance and saves memory. 1280x704 on both PS3 and 360. removing a few lines from 720p saves good perf & memory for us

Know what you mean. During the summer it's brutal; I have to keep the door to my office closed so the heat doesn't get out into the house. I have four fans blowing on me. Looking forward to the first cool snap, for sure.

Power-wise, Eyefinity is bringing my poor UPS to its knees when we get power blips. I'm thinking of adding a separate power supply for the cards and then plugging that into its own dedicated UPS, separate from everything else. Under full load, like when playing a modern FPS at full settings, this setup draws more juice than everything else in the house put together, (except the central air conditioner, obviously).

I love how almost nothing anyone ever says on this site ever gets a "wow, that's pretty cool, wish I could do that". It's always "you're pathetic" (sic) or "you're a retard for buying into this or that game dev/pub company's product".

How about instead of constantly criticizing people for what they buy and are into, you tell us once and for all what you buy and what you are into, so we can take a big fat dump on that.

When people buy a nice tv, surround sound package, and a console, they are losers because they play games that aren't anywhere near as good graphically (and otherwise) as they are on the PC. The fact that they use the controller instead of KB/M, they are doubly losers amiright?

When people buy an awesome gaming rig with a multi-monitor setup that can play any PC game - past, present, or moderately future - at a ridiculously high resolution with all the eye candy turned on, they are also suddenly a loser for buying into the shitty PC gaming market with consolized ports, cheating, and 'overpriced hardware'. How dare we spend our money on a second graphics card, we could've donated that money to world peace!!!!

So, WTF are we supposed to do huh? What the fuck is your grand wisdom for the future of gaming?

Some of use have good enough jobs where we can fully indulge our sick and ridiculous desires to immerse ourselves completely in a gaming universe. If it offends you so much that you (anyone 'you') can't be around to hear about it, maybe you picked the wrong sites to visit.

PS. Have some deep thoughts about how pissed you'll be at the first people to buy the first true Virtual Reality system, if you live that long. Maybe you'll have an aneurism and do some of us a favor.
