Vehicle Creation and Character Animation Today's Battlefield 2 (BF2) Editor Spotlight features two items: Vehicle creation and character animation. As I mentioned in a previous update, the modding process has been streamlined in BF2 to make things easier. This is no simple task because BF2 contains a lot more features and thus gives modders many more things to play around with. Example 1: Creating a Custom Vehicle For those of you that have created vehicles for Battlefield 1942 or Vietnam, you are probably used to creating each of the pieces, copying the .con files from an existing vehicle, and then hacking those files to reference your new assets. With the new BF2 Editor, the process is much simpler. The first step is still modeling the object in an art package, but now instead of creating each piece in a separate file, such as a tank body, the turret, the guns, the wheels, and so on, and then hooking them all up in the .con file, you simply create all pieces of the vehicle in the same file. This allows you to place everything exactly where it's supposed to go. No more guessing about positioning and rotation because you can see everything as you work.
