Good assessment, and agree with your review. I played the MP demo that featured WAKE ISLAND map, and had one of the most entertaining and fun gaming experience since long ago. I don't know if people will recall an online only game called NETWAR, which also featured (limited) vehicles to control. It was a 2D game but was addictive and fun...let me stress fun. The software company went under in less than a year unfortunately. Enough of that. The system requirements to play online is pretty steep, especially when there are many explosions occuring on your screen. With the increase in maps in the full version, it can be chaotic at times, especially when there are TKers and people in general don't cohesively work together to achieve objectives in the game. Get in on a good game however, and you'll have a blast. Cheers

Flying the planes in this game is pretty damn tough at first. The physics, and especially the splash damage of the rocket launched from the anti tank guys is PATHETIC. Playing this single player is near impossible. Bots are either completely stupid (my teammates walk around aimlessly) or incredible (enemy bots know where I am and kill me in one shot). It is obvious they put very little time into the bots. But, this game is really not meant for SP.

I've played the demo and currently playing the full version. The BOTS in the game are a bit tough but thats about it. I've managed to finshin half of the campaign from both sides (Axis and Allies), my difficulty settings are normal (not easy). So I won't say that its impossible to play in SP. I'm not a MP player, don't have a DSL or anything ecept a 56K so for me its only SP, and I say again this game is quite neat with a good SP part. Kind of reminds you of Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. Two thumbs up for a job well done.!

This games represents good concept and bad realization of online playing. Single player isn't worth mentioning with such stupid AI of bots. In multiplayer horrible net code makes very often impossible to kill enemy even if it is a few meters away (especially people are VERY resistant to rocket !!!!!), many players experience big lags, freezes and slowdowns even on fast connection and lan playing. EA advices lowering sound quality or even turning off sound as one of the solutions (sic!!!). This game set new record in multiplayer cheats development, they were available internet two weeks after launch (check info on www.counter-hack.net). Read a bit user's comments on game's forum about EA support in this and other games (including NO anti-cheat system in this and other EA's products). This game was released way too early. After all this and playing the demo I won't buy this game and don't recommend it to anyone. I was shocked that people rushed to buy this (1'st place on top sellers). Except nice pictures and advertisement they forgotten to check it's playability (download demo and check it by yourself!), now EA has it's money and doesn't care anything more :(

Best online game this year, I'd say best online game existing right now. Some notes: you need a joystick or gamepad to fly planes. Deal. People complain about an inability to hit: I snipe with the machine gun. Use short, controlled bursts, kneel or go prone, and you will be deadly. Hop around like it's UT2k3 and I'll smoke you. The bazooke/panzerschreck: the ammo is anti-armor, that's why only a dead-on shot will kill infantry. This game is incredibly fun, but has two big caveats: first, you need broadband to enjoy it, and a beefy gaming rig. I'm only running a 1GHz athlon, so I stick to the 24 player servers and it runs fine, some slowdown on the 32 player servers. 64 player servers are a myth. Second, the players. This is a team game, and anyone who has spent much time gaming online knows how much of online gaming is dominated by juvenile half-wits. On a percentage scale, I rate it a solid 95%.

Well it's crap in SP (the AI was just a filler to sell it to those that can't play online) MP is totaly buggy!!!!!!!! Even with a 512kb connection you may as well have servers on the moon, the lag is **THAT** bad. Great for LAN parties, but unless your next door to the main server, forget it!Just a bad written piece of resource hogging code imho. I read it needs a dedicated 33Kb upload for each player -so if your on cable (which is usualy shared with other users) the bandwidth get's strangled as others join the BF server. 1/2/3/4 people is ok, then the 5th person joins and the pings go 999!!! I wonder why RTCW can be played with 64 player servers **ALL OVER THE WORLD** -is it because it had better code writers?? -me thinks so!

Why does everyone say the game is laggy and only works on the net? That they only way it works with a server is if it is close by your house? Guys, you CAN NOT play this game on a server that is cable/dsl or worse. It is simple, really. You must play on a dedicated server. You need a T1/T3 or better server. When playing on a DEDICATED server I get NO LAG at all. The funny thing is how RTCW, MOH, etc etc etc all were called games with crappy netcode. Strange how they are what is now being compared to for 'good netcode.' Not hard guys, do not try to play on the 12 year old's down the street cable modem server if you do not want lag!!!

This is a primarily MP game, SP was implemented for non-broadband unfortunate users and for people to play offline and get the feel of the game without having to worry about people bitching at them, cause they simply cannot fly a plane or fire a tank to save their life. Netcode requires a bit of tweaking to make it more playable, probably the biggest constraint is that its not adviced to start up your own server on a adsl/cable line. Its best indeed to play on dedicated server, and preferably Linux servers now that they will be supported. Slick ([email protected]) probably summed up how narrow minded people generaly are very nicely. The game does not suck at all, neither MP or SP. In SP its the bots that let it down, but then again, it was stressed that this is a MP game. And no, i dont work for EA, but i do work with PC and console games and i know how to appreciate a good piece of work, same way i am paid to critisise it. I would give the game a solid 90%, cause nothing is perfect in life afterall. This game has huge potential, specialy on passworded servers where you can play with people you know that will back you up. Cause in contrast with eg Counter Strike, where eventhough your team might be as thick as mince, you can still play alone and enjoy a game or two, not caring about what is going on around you. This game does not allow Rambo tactics at all, so its a pain (albeit funny at start) watching people getting in planes and flying straight into the first hill or building that crosses their flying path. Life is harsh, you need a good machine to play this, and a good connection. Its a hard transition, but people need to realise that publishers and developers alike cannot always cater for the masses, 56k with geforce1. All the upcoming games will require better and faster machines all the time. Whether its a cunning ploy between games designers and graphix card makers, that is a whole different issues. But as i said, life is harsh, and if you want to enjoy the new games, you need to pay up; simple as that. Overall, the game is FUN, in many ways. From bombing a tank to bits to using the sniper camera to shell areas with artillery from literaly across the map.

This is now my all-time favorite game.. I have many CTD (crash to desktop) problems with this game though on my main rig. I do not have the same problem on my secondary rig. But my main machine is what I play it on since it is much more up to spec. I drives me nuts that it crashes so often. But, I still absolutely love the game. Its probably a good thing that it does crash on me because if it didn't I would never know when to leave the game. At least when it crashes, I have a minute to contemplate whether I should get some other things done. If it didn't crash I wouldn't even take the timeout to visit a site like this and write a comment :)

Just another one to say that this game rules! I have a 900MHz TB, 512 MB RAM and a GF2Pro. It runs very smooth on servers under 80 in ping, and I find hundresd of such fast dedicated servers with All-seeing eye. I have no problems with lag, slowdown, crashes or whatever. I can run a server (non-dedicated) for 10-15 ppl on my connection (750k up 2,5M down) without any problems for the players. Also, am I the only one who think thats its really easy to fly tke planes with keyboard? Just drop the mouse and use keyboard only, it will go smooth!

I agree with many here who complain about lag....it does get terrible at times where it will outright make you think your system crashed.....but in fact hasn't, just turned into a slide show of sort to get your ass busted and perforated with some bullets or shrapnel from grenades. I also think the NET CODING on this game is SUPER SHIT, especially as someone else pointed out that RTCW is fluid with all your neato whizzbang pyro effects turned on. HOWEVER, the idea of the game where you get to bomb the shit out of people in vehicles makes it somewhat satisfying, especially the poor trolls who get hammered by behemoth battleship artillery. You have to find a good server with some people who know how to play the game....it's rare but there are some. Well, back to BF1942. OH, btw, the multiplayer demo made me run out and buy this game the first day it came out. I was a bit disappointed, but with people getting used to the maps and finally figuring out how to play,,...it's more enjoyable than before. Still a long ways to go and upteen patches required to fix some stuff.

So as far as im concerned u knew what u was gonna get as the MP demo patch was the same as the RETAIL patch ok sometimes laggy and but on the whole a great ONLINE MP experience, so finally you shouldn’t have an excuse to moan if you bought the game as you expected some miraculous special PATCHED recoded and smooth released version, the only game in my opinion that still gives you a buzz from playing online is Tactical Ops this is TO but in WW2 style its great and your gonna see more MODS & additions to this game its gonna be around for a long time !

This game is one patch away from being my all time favorite. With a little tweaking (read the forums like I did)online play is incredibly fun. Use the All Seeing Eye and find 10000 people playing and 64 player servers (NVIDIA Test Server is one). Now that's madness! I love it!

BF 1942 is a superb game, it runs shyte on my tommy tankin PC, but that dosnt stop me from playing the bastard online.... with my just as shit connection. Its gotta say something in itself really, and im NOT easily pleased. They best release the 1.2 patch soon or someone will suffer or be fudged in a dark corner. Never played it online but enjoyed playing SP. The game is good, but the guys were too hasty releasing it and as a result we have stupid bots and other things already mentioned before me. I think the hand-weapons would sound nicer if the sounds were borrowed from RtCW. I also liked the marked bullets in the RcTW since it's good to see red bullets flying in the air. Another unpleasant detail is inabibilty to change crosshair types (I prefer a dot-typed one. Overall, the graphics and gameplay are top level. you really feel a part of the Band of Brothers-type combat. I envy the lucky players with wrist-sized internet connections. Overall ranking - 9/10

Great consept but the big but... I have a watercooled pc and case ti 4600 1024 megs of 40 ddr ram 2.5 amd msi ultra mother soundblaster 7.1 sound and its tweaked out . I get 195000 bench marks on 2001 se and run xp pro fast a. Well not fast enough i guess for 1942 i get lagt all the time and i almost forgot you all are saying its my 56 k modem. NOTTTT I have a t1 line that i pay a prity penny. Well i played m=this dam game with every setting possible but no luck. I get lag and stutters lllike ttthattt it pissees me off so dam bad I have been threw 3 mice from smashing them on the wall . this game has costed me more money than its worth but. It is a bad ass game i just can get the right settings. and for you that are saying i dont have my pc set up right well if you can beet 19500 bench mark points wright me cuz you cant i have over 4000 on my pc . its the dam game it does have bugs and they are some bad ass bug. over all game play % stars out of 5 stars good game. except for the small prob of the bugs...

Ok, now im pissed off, my system specifications meets the game spec and more, same as everyone else here, and BF1942 runs like shit. awefull programming, they are still working on the new patch (1.2) but seem to be concentrating more on expanding the game opposed to improvements to how the game runs. Someone at EA needs a good kick in the bollox, or better still, a PC which is a bit more bog standard i.e (1000mhz)the assholes had best get this sorted or else i will do everything in my power to make sure the system spec written on the box is raised to their standards. So no poor chaps like us are fooled into low fps laggy ass gaming.

This game SUCKS!!! Maybe if EA fixed the LAG PROBLEMS (I have DSL and a dual 1.4 gz computer) even on low graphics its the same as high graphics, slow and choppy. And if they fixed the rockets splash damage which is non-existent (UNREALISTIC) then it would be cool, it feels like a beta game thats still in development... overall..GOOD CONCEPT, BAD PRODUCTION...Go back to code EA and rewrite this game...!!!

Good game in all... But it takes way too long to load maps.... It takes like literally 2-3 min to load 1 map... I'm on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with 256mb RAM and geforce 4 mx 440... If I got more RAM should it load somewhat faster??

I Can only comment on the single player mode as i aint tried it online yet, the AI seems to be glitchy to say the least! however you can adjust the amount of CPU time given to AI. The graphics are nice but nothing special, there are definately many bugs in the game which is a pitty, i must admit the code seems very CPU intensive even running on my XP2200+ with 512MB Ram, it seems to slowdown when there are a lot of vehicles or troops in the area... but that said there is a lot going on with planes, tanks, troops etc.. All in all i don't rate it very highly for single player game, but maybe it's o.k. on a LAN or T1.

The game is crap. I bought it the other day and waded through the maps. I suppose the MP would be ok but i'm on 56K so no go. Overall, it seemed buggy, badly executed and too short. I'm sick of games being hyped and buying them to find out they're kack. If EA don't put some more effort into their work, I'll never buy another EA game period. Running on 1.4 Athlon, 256 Ram, Geforece 3. All right drivers etc.

Hwever i have recently installed te latest patch 1.2 and it runs sweet. i have a 56k modem, 1.2 has made the game tolerable with such a shit connection speed. I dont like people that say the game runs shit, and follow that up with high computer specs. My computer genuinly is the same as the PC spec in the comment above. I agree with others that this game is really meant to be a Multiplayer game. And it's also true that you need a fairly decent setup to get the most out of it. It was buggy as hell for me when I first bought it, it was a miracle if it would even run, but since the 1.2 patch has been released then all the problems have melted away. If you get a good server with under a 90 ping then the gameplay is absolutely amazing! Best game I've ever played to date. I can run it with full detail and effects and get no lag. But my system is pretty much upto date. (P4 2.4ghz, 512MB Ram, GForce4 4600 graphics and a ADSL connection) As someone said earlier if you want to get the most out of this game you gotta pay for it. But believe me, it's worth the effort!

This is the best game ever. and i don't even play it online. i've got to admit that the bots are too lame. i've finisched both campains with either alies and axis. on normal AI it's way too easy. i've got a celeron 2.0 Ghz but the game plays very good. even on the highest resolution. the game kisks thats all there is to say. i played sp for weeks before i discoverd playing on the net and loved that, but now ive played mp i have to say its the best game ive played by a long shot, i only have a 56k modem, adsl in a few days now, and it runs fine. there also seems to be a few problems that different people have, like my crash to desktop, which is anoiying but it is still a sweet game.

I get 195000 bench marks on 2001 se and run xp pro fast a. Well not fast enough i guess for 1942 i get lagt all the time and i almost forgot you all are saying its my 56 k modem. NOTTTT I have a t1 line that i pay a prity penny. HA HA HA I only got a P4@ 1.8GHz 256 DDR ram GeForce FX 5200 128mb. And I never get lag, and your super pc does.

Excellent game, lags though if your ping or anyone else's ping is higher than 110 or if there are over 12 players... Overall rating 75%

The nice thing about this website is the good and cool reviews that are being published here. These people at least put the effort in it to give a review without all of you having to payout money. The negative and completely predictable thing about this forum is, that people are always complaining and nagging at each other at some point down the amount of posts. LOL. Get a life guys.
