Peter Thoman, the NeoGaf user and modder better known by his handle 'Durante' today posted both via NeoGAF and his blog that game Producer; Bandai Namco had sent him a DMCA complaint and had taken down his mod DSFix (local mirror) that vastly improves the visual quality and frame rate of the original Dark Souls' PC port. Thoman is a somewhat beloved figure in the PC Gaming community for his graphical fixes for titles such as Final Fantasy XIII and Deadly Premonition. His patches add the ability to run the games at uncapped resolutions and higher frame rates along with with a host of graphics enhancements such as: texture modding, ambient occlusion, anti-aliasing and depth of field and post-processing effects, features that were strangly missing from the shipping products (with some games being capped at 30FPS and 720p) These options are seen as standard in PC gaming that have existed for decades and many see Durante’s fixes as doing the developer's work for them. So you can imagine the response when his arguably most famous mod was taken down.

This ends well, however, as it turns out the takedown was a mistake from a company hired to wipe out illegal debug mode content for the action/RPG that ended up pursuing this task a little overzealously, and the program is to be once again be legally available to all.

Durante should remove his fixes, and DMCA the fuk out of anyone else trying to distribute his work ;) Stupid laws belong in the bin along with trash that come up with them.
