HomeLAN talks with RealNetwork's David Nixon about Axis, the FPS mecha game that is due to be released via the net on Monday by RealArcade. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN: What kinds of gameplay modes are in the full version of Axis?
David Nixon: Well, there is, of course, the staple of FPS - Deathmatch as well as other variables that other FPS provide, such as weapon limitation deathmatch such as Rocket Arena, and Ion Cannon Arena. They also have a "Sudden Death" mode similar to Instagib UT with 1-shot = 1-kill gameplay using the Sniper Rifles.
However, the Axis programmers provided some new and interesting Deathmatch variations as well. "King On the Hill", for example gives the player currently in the lead all the powerups (unlimited boost, damage amplifier, gravity armor), but also makes him worth 5 times as many points to kill than everyone else which provides incentive for the other players to gang up on the king. Then, when someone else takes the lead, THEY become king. This makes for a very interesting dynamic in a large multiplayer game. Another game type - Gladiator limits the mechs to the 2 "melee" weapons so that the action gets up-close and personal. Of course, there's also team variations of these gametypes as well. [more]
