Gameplex has conducted an interview with Lonely Cat Games' Michal Bacik, Lead Designer of their upcoming 3D shooter, Atlantica.
Q:
What separates Atlantica from the other 3D Shooters?
A:
I’d move the term “3D shooter” somewhere between a shooter and a mix of adventure and strategy. So basically we don’t want to fit into the category of pure 3D shooters. But what separates Atlantica from other game in the genre? I’d say that it’s story, which will also appear in the game – players will encounter Inca and Alien technology, communicate with them, read their messages (which couldn’t be understood without use of universal translator which of-course player will have with him).
Then there might be of interest the mix of planar missions with spherical moons, with variety of locations. And finally we want give a lot of multiplayer action to players.
Q:
The Game is taking place 3000 before Christ. The Incas receive Weapontechnology of the Aliens and the peoples of Atlantica have advanced Defenseweapons. Which Weapons will be available for the gamers? Will plasma-canons meet Archers?
A:
There are more than ten weapons, offering various functions. Ray-emitters, grenade-throwers and projectile weapons are used for elimination of enemies. Magnetic field throwers may dysfunction enemies’ shields; other weapons are used for disarming or blinding enemy. The various functions of weapons perfectly fit into single player story, and allows for great possibilities in multi player game. Additionally, it is possible to use traps, which are to be found and carried in hero’s inventory - this ranges from classical mines, sensors for detection of enemies, invisible projectile rebound platforms and ability to place small blocks for hiding behind. Weapons are to be found in levels, secret rooms, or may be grabbed from killed enemies. It will be helpful to combine various weapons, and it will be a must when fighting Boss enemies in a level. For example first you’ll have to disrupt enemy’s shield, then throw magnetic field to partially disarm the boss, and finally achieve the glory using standard firing weaponry.
