The Radeon X300: PCI Express on a budget

TechReport has posted a preview of ATI's PCI-E family which includes Radeon X800, X600, and X300 series graphics products:

Despite claims that its X800 architecture scales down to eight- and four-pipe designs, the low end of ATI's PCI Express Radeon X-series is dominated by last year's technology. Not that there's anything wrong with last year's technology, though. The X600 and X300's RV360 roots leverage a proven rendering pipeline, full 24 bits of pixel shader precision, and the most gorgeous antialiasing around.

Other than PCI Express support and a slight memory clock boost for the XT, the X600 line doesn't offer much over ATI's existing Radeon 9600 series products. However, the X300 is a significant improvement over ATI's previous value workhorse, the DirectX 8-class Radeon 9200 series. ATI expects the Radeon X300s to be twice as fast as the 9200s, which is a pretty significant leap when you add DirectX 9-class shaders to the equation

i don't care what card people get, all i care about is playing my games. When i got a Geforce4 Ti4800SE, i had alot of problems with the games i played and so i got a ATI Radeon 9800Pro and i don't get any problems at all. The only trouble i get is if it is OS related, which is not common. I wish MS would make Win9x games work on XP. (ie. Tie Fighter 95) (WITH Direct3D working.)

ah here we go, atifanboy starts it up. anyone having problems with a nvidia card, i have to question their pc capabilities. never ever had a problem with nvidia and don't know anyone including my dad(who is very limited on pc's) EVER have a problem and he's playing with a 4400 still. oh and now it's not ati problems, no it's the os. if it's not the os it's bad game code..lol u guys just crack me up.

i had an nvidia 4200. i had a lot of problem. so i bought ati 9600 pro. still a lot of problem. then i sell my macintosh and buy a pc. games works okay now. so i never buy nvidia again.

my ti4200 has been faithfull for over a year so far, no problems anywhere other then with a few mobo drivers. Though i see ATI's performing better then nvidia's, nvidia's cards are cheaper. Maybe my next card will be a ATI just to see if it really makes that much of a friggin difference.

geno. no it doesn't. ur listening to ati people that no nothing else but what their daddies bought them. ur free to do what u want with ur money. but u will put urself in world of 50/50 with games. remember, games don't say made for ati, they "always" say nvidia. if that doesn't say enough(no its not just marketing) then i fear u just want to blow money. @hanzo, that's really good logic you stupid ass smacktard. i have problem with my 4200, i replace with 9600 still proble, sell mac and buy pc and never buy nvidia. ur a F_cking moron. i say, bring ur pc back and if they ask you why, say ur too f_cking stupid to own one.
