ATI Catalyst 10.9 Drivers + Hotfix Released - tech
(hx) 10:22 AM CEST - Sep,16 2010 - Post a comment / read (6)
ATI has released ATI Catalyst 10.9 drivers (release notes) for Windows 7, Vista, XP and Linux. The drivers are also available via Steam. Catalyst 10.9 offers performance improvements for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for certain 4000 and 5000-series cards. There are also new or updated Catalyst profiles for Aliens vs. Predator, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, F1 2010, and Kane & Lynch 2. Catalyst 10.9 also brings official support for hardware acceleration in the Internet Explorer 9 beta (which is now available).

Update: This hotfix-driver solves the HDMI overscan-problem. It also contains a new HDMI audio-driver. If you have an AMD system, look also for the latest updated AHCI-driver that are available now.

Gotta love ATI, hotfix, hotfix, hotfix.. how about hiring some fucking real driver people! They are obviously not feeding their monkeys enough bananas. Makes me happier than hell to have nvidia where everything works.

You have to understand how the driver authoring pipeline works for ATI, before start bitching about the hotfixes. Hotfixes are there because they didn't have time to implement it in the final package, before sending it out for WHQL.

In a sense, they are the same thing as Nvidia's beta driver, where they may have a 256.62 WHQL and a couple days later, the 256.75 beta comes out.

I will have to admit that ATI have fucked up for the past three months. Let's give the guys a break though. They are about to launch a new DX11 graphics cards series, while Nvidia has not even completed their first DX11 line, which is plagued with problems. Having to do double the work than competition does, brings some more stress in driver authoring, wouldn't you think?

No ATI just sucks. I can't say I have EVER had a problem with 1 single nvidia driver including their Beta versions. Wish I could say the same for ATI when I was with them (i try to forget). Heck man, half the time I am running with a beta driver because I have no issues. Also, why rush cards to the market when sales and demand for that card are not very high? You should read up on it, but card sales have dropped significantly. Even nvidia knows that not everyone is going to run to the store to upgrade their cards. They know everyone knows that their current cards are plenty and there is nothing games wise to substantiate having to upgrade. It's called smart business. Throwing out dx11 cards is a tactic ATI uses to try and grab suckers who don't know any better. Nvidia is a leader, they don't play the catchup game like ATI has too. As it is, how many DX10 and DX11 games are out there anyhow? Especially DX11, there's like 4 or 5 games.. And those that are out there, compared to dx9, there is not much of a difference visually.. so who cares. Nvidia is a smart company, not a quality comes second company like ATI.

Well, I appreciate Nvidia's drivers as well, since I've been using a GTX 260 last year and 460 this year, but I am also using ATI's cards since the 1900XT and they had few problems since then. ATI had problems before that. At least they didn's screw up Vista the way Nvidia did.

It is not a smart business to launch DX11 power hogs, six months later than the competition and since you don't own DX11 hardware, I would suggest you keep your opinion until you do. First watch Dirt 2 running in full post process and then talk! ;) Yes, DX11 games still remain beauties in DX9 mode, but not as much. Why strip yourself of such a privilege? It's not that the cost is forbidding or something. Anyway, it's your prerogative. Just don't doom everything because you don't want it.

Throwing out new products is called, doing business. Not throwing out new products mean the store is currently on a crash and burn course (God forbid).

Regretfully, ATI has indeed many fuck ups during the past 3 months. Dunno why. Maybe it's the new series that's coming out and they are pushing support on that. We'll see...!

Nvidia always takes there time. They wait for ATI to output their junk and then nvidia comes in and takes over the market. It's been happening for years and years. Where have you been?

As for Dirt2 and DX11 bs, I can comment because there are a million articles out there showing difference in Dirt2, not one has impressed me or driven me to want a DX11 card. I'm fine with my DX9/10 card. It handles the majority of games currently out and coming out.

For anyone that wants to see this eye shattering quality of DX11 vs DX9, take a look below. And like in Dirt 2 you will sit around staring at a rock.. Everything will be a blur while your tearing around so is there really any advantage to Dx11 in Dirt2? I don't think so.. IMO, not worth it, waste of money. Right now it's for people on an ego trip...

Again, regarding DX11, you are using someone else's experience, to strengthen your own opinion. FAIL!

As for Nvidia, yeah they are always taking their time....to rebrand graphics cards, ie 8800 GTS 512 to 9800GTX to 9800GTX+ to GTS 250 or to make huge inefficient dies, that result in uber expensive power guzzling cards Awesome. Thank God for the GTX 460 though. There may still be some hope left.

I've been around Tom. It is you who have been too caught up with the retard consoles and you still have an opinion of what's happening in the PC industry. Nice!
